hi

been thinking of maybe racing indoors again,touring.so i need a chassis.

i wanted to keep it tamiya.

i dont have a huge budget,so cant afford a 415/416?????

i had a tt01 a few years ago and didnt get on well with it ,then i got a xray t1 i think it was,which was really easy to drive.i even finished a few races with it.

so ive been thinking of

ta05 or tb03

any suggestions on which will be easier to use and maintain?

From the research I have done the TB03 and TA05 look identical, except the transmission style and layout.

Both have the same inboard suspension, and all the adjustment all looks the same.

So its a case of belt or shaft.

For indoor racing I would go for belt. It looks like a more efficient system and possibly has a weight benefit. I would expect the cush effect of a rubber belt to make it easier to drive too.

now though for the same sort of money,what other manufacturers chassis are compairable/better???

Given the choice of belt or shaft for racing I would always choose belt. The motor is across the chassis so no torque steering like with a shaft drive. The TB03 needs less maintenance with the enclosed transmission, but the TA05 is much easier to work on.

Not much at all, anything cheaper is nowhere near the same performance of a TA05/TB03. The only comparable chassis is the Hot Bodies Cyclone S, their budget moulded plastic version of their world championship winning chassis - just like the TA05 is a plastic version of the TRF415.

having a search i sort of see that anything from associated/xray etc is quite a bit more money.

so it looks like im gonna get a ta05 .can this be upgraded with trf 415 parts?

If you have all the electrics you need, TRF415's can be had at a reasonable price. I have two, an MS and an MSX and I paid 78 posted for each one.

i will keep an eye out.i would def have one for that money.

also now looking at the ta05r .which ever comes along first i surpose.

People reccomend shaft cars for beginners, but I'd say belt drive. Shaft drive is considered to be less maintenance, but I find it to be quite the opposite. You have to shim the drive train on a shaft car to be effective and without proper shimming, you an strip the gears very easily. Belt drives have some 'give' in the drive train, since the belts are elastic. In case of crashes(you will crash alot, befor you get good), belts will absorb the impact and save your drive train. With shaft drive, there is a good chance you will strip the gears in a crash(or even blow a diff). Belt drive cars are in general more forgiving to drive and behaves much smoother and predictable. Shaft cars are responsive, but may be twitchy for beginners. Even if you get a pebble stuck, belt drive will drive decent. Get a pebble stuck in a shaft drive, and your car(they find their way inside the gearbox sometimes) will sound like a lawnmower. Another thing. Belt drive chassis tend to be lighter.

i got a used ta05 at a good price on ebay.

it came with

nip carbon reinforced bulks etc.

was quite suprised that it came with real carbon shock towers and battery strap and centre brace.

also came with

Blue alloy servo mounts

Blue alloy steering linkage

Roll bars front and rear complete with other thicknesses

CVD's fitted all round

Tamiya high torque servo saver

Hex head screws fitted throughout

Limited edition Medium-narrow dish wheels carbon reinforced-zero offset

Medium-narrow dish wheels white-zero offset

is it worth fitting the light weight carbon reinforced chassis?

any other hopups it might be worth getting?

will normal radial tyres fit these wheels?

Its not worth getting the carbon lightweight chassis at the moment. Thats a nice Ta05 just get running it and tweak teh set-up to your style.

Once you can race without crashing more than 3 times in a race look at making it faster / lighter.

will get the blue alloy motor mount,because i like the colour.

going to buy a protoform rf9f for carpet racing.

What tyres will you be running? The R9F is produced for foam tyres and has less downforce as foams have more grip. If your racing rubber tyres, you would do better going for the R9R.

i think i may try at sidcup indoor track.pretty sure they run foams on carpet.

My advice would be to race rubber on 1/10th TC in Britain. You will find most of the advice given by people is for rubber. If you are not clear check out the associated tc5r and tc5f the R stands for rubber - UK/Europe market and has more flex built into the components - chassis and suspension arms whereas the F foam US market has stiffer chassis and suspension arms.

I see you are in London, depending on where you are you should also remember to go to West London raceway a very cool outdoor track. If you are looking at racing in kent then you MUST go to Maritime indoor circuit as well. Finally if you are out west Aldershot is well worth a visit, both West London and Aldershot where National Tracks last year.

But seriously ditch the foam idea unless you want to run 12ths :)

If the club you are going to allow foams to race on touring cars on carpet then the easy option is to run foams - more grip, no waiting for tyres to warm up, more consistent and precise handling, faster lap times. I know qatmix and VincevegaUK are big fans of Gecko foam tyres. There's a lot of small clubs in the UK that allow foam tyres and they are much more suited to beginners than rubbers.

The bigger clubs tend to stick to BRCA nationals rules which restrict tyres to rubber, usually even only allowing specific makes of tyre. In which case your choice of tyre will be down to asking the local racers what tyres they use.
