Hello again. I am getting to the finishing stages of my latest Scorcher build and I need some window netting.

I have seen the tutorial on making netting out of thin striping tape, so I know that is one option.

I seem to remember there being a Tamiya source for it from a kit, but I can't remember.

I was also thinking about sourcing some thin string or nylon cord and trying to CA glue it together.

Also, in search of scale accuracy, in a two person vehicle with a driver and copilot, should the netting be on both sides or only on the driver's side?

I did a search and could not find a specific thread on this, so I thought one central thread with ideas would be great. Thanks in advance.

I would suggest the window netting from the re-re Hotshot. It comes as a small sheet that you cut to size, and I am pretty sure that the sheet would be big enough to do the side windows on a Sand Scorcher. The other car I have that came with window netting is the Super Champ.

Hope this helps

I've been doing the same thing, looking for netting for my baja bug project.

I have tried out a couple of things here, some yellow netting from some food packaging and also some black netting from some fishnet sock things.

Not sure which to go with but I think the black is my favourite.

Very easy to make just cut and used duck tape on the edges.

I've been doing a bit of DIY lately on my extension - and have found the perfect source... Fiberglass plasterboard self adhesive scrim tape. (edit - ahh, you're already aware of it - great stuff!)

Forget about using it's stickyness (or lack of) for sticking it to the shell, but sprayed black or red I've been thinking it would be great for window mesh. If you're in the UK and PM me your address I'll put a foot or so of it in the post if you like - to save you buying a whole roll?!

Cheers,

Tim.

In my job I use a lot of 'roofline' products , and there is a self adhesive soffit vent insect screen / mesh that you can buy , it is a small mesh and is great for air vent mesh etc - slightly off the point but might be food for thought for anyone looking for it
