Went last year with an rc truck club I go to events with. Sadly the organisers didn't make us that welcome, so we haven't bothered going this year.

It was a decent enough show, but we had to keep giving up our running area to large scale model tanks!

It wasn't that great this year ;)

RC-wise, Model Power were there, and my LHS, but otherwise, RC cars were pretty much non-existant

It was more like a big tool sale that you had to pay 9.50 to enter :)

There were a few exhibits from scale model clubs, 1/6 Tanks etc, but I would guess 60-70% of the floor space used was given over to tool stores :D

Nothing like the Model Expos from a couple of years back, and nothing AT ALL like the old Model Engineer shows from years ago

If you want a 5 pack of needle files, it's great, but otherwise I can think of far better ways to spend 1.5 hours

Well it is the Model Engineering exhibition. I'm sure it would please model engineers.

The BRCA doesn't do anything there, it gets much more publicity with the display at the Autosport International show the weekend before.

There used to be the Model Engineer Exhibition (run by the magazine) and that was sweet - all aspects of modelling and small scale engineering in the same place - they even had boat lakes etc.

I guess the names are similar enough to suck in the odd muppet :)

..another waste of a degree!

Some of us make a living as model engineers!

Definitely not the same as the hobbyist model engineers the show is aimed at who spend their spare time machining up steam trains in their shed.

I went to this show last year, and to be honest it seemed to be more geared towards the scratch builder (and there was some impressive stuff there if thats your bag).

If you were considering investing in some serious small scale engineering tools, (a lathe , CNC or milling / drilling equipment), it was a good chance to see some of the bigger UK suppliers like Warco and others. At the time I was thinking about a small lathe, and it was a good chance to get a hands on feel for some of the ones I had seen online.

However, for me there wasn't really enough there to fill more than an hour or 2 of browsing the stalls. Even with show discounts on some of the smaller tools and equipment you would still be better off buying online, plus I thought the entry price was a bit steep for what was there.

Are there still any really big national model shows focussing on RC? Went to a big one at Epsom or Sandown, (can't remember which), race course a few years ago with RC flying displays, a lot of RC planes and boats - quite a lot to see, but haven't seen that advertised for a while.
