So here is my pumpkin, been running it for a couple of years and it shows!,

I started out with a cheap radio set(thing it was a zebra/hi-tec?) any way that was no good and I lost control with a 19T peak racing motor and smashed it into a metal skip at work!(I should have been working, not bashing!)

Of course I broke all the body mounts!, have been running it topless ever since!, recently I fitted an 18T ansmann clash motor, still with the standard tamiya speed control(ESC), during a run, I flipped it over and broke the chassis, where the steering servo mounts

100_1259.jpg

I did try to fix it,

100_1268.jpg

but it won't hold so I had to order a new chassis,

As you can see I have fitting the 3rd shock using a short shock from a falcon!

100_1232-1.jpg

I had also broken my front bottom shock mount, so decided to fit the falcon shocks to the rear but they turned out to be too long, so I changed the damper rod for a shorter Blitzer beetle one(not ideal, but it did shorten it)

I was then left with the problem that when the 3rd shock is in full compression, the motor fouls the rear shock, I have fixed that problem by mounting the rear shocks further back,.

And the new clearance. with the rear shock and motor

100_1261.jpg

As I said, I have ordered a new chassis, "D"parts and "E" parts so should be re-building very soon,

Questions I have

1, Should I use a spreader plate on rear shocks or would a large washer be o.k?

2, I want to fit a Kamtec VW BUS shell on this chassis, Where can I buy suitable mounts?

I did try the search function but with no luck so far!, although I have seen it done!

I did have a classic VW beetle shell on for a while but no pics to show you,

Many thanks for looking, I may do a re-build thread when I get my parts!

LOL

re mounts for the VW body, I would have though the Lunchbox mounts wiuld be worth a try ;)

Hey!!, that better not appear in quotes of the week!!!, out of context!! :)

Yes, think the lunchbox mounts would work, but they are also very fragile!!

I am sure I seen adjustable body posts, but couldn't find them!

E2A:, Could anyone provide thre Tamiya part number for the lunchbox body mounts or a suitable alternative?

I have looked at the manual on Tamiyaclub but it shows the Schumacher couger 2000??

I don't know the part number, but it's the "C" parts tree (the chrome body parts). And they're not that fragile; the heavy plastic Lunchbox shell puts a lot of strain on them if you flip it over too many times, but they should do fine with a lighter and more flexible body.

How do you find the Clash motor? I had to put my 15T one back in the box as it barely moved my VLB.

Not decided on the motor yet, not run it enough, it seems faster but has less torque and won't wheelie like it used to!, I had a 19T Peak Racing SV2 motor before and that was much better throwing the pumpkin up on one wheel when it wheelied!, my mate had the 21T ansmann clash while I was still running the stock silver can and his was much faster than mine at the time!, but anyway it seems to work ok with the tamiya ESC so if I upgrade again, I shall go with the EZRUN brushless set-up!

I broke it again,................

The superglue didn't hold!

1st run in the garden and this happened!

100_1389.jpg

Anyone else had this happen?,

They don't make them like they used to,!!!!

That happened to my pumpkin and my old monster beetle. Both from the 80's, so yes, they still make them like they used too ;)

Thanks for that, I had a lunchbox as a kid and I don't remember it breaking as often as this pumpkin does, but only had a silver can back then.

I glued the servo onto the chassis of the car my son now drives and so far it hasn't come loose. Thought about getting a new chassis for him but he is a crazy driver so until he stop his antics is basher chassis for him. Yeah right!

I like what you are doing with the shock mounts. The CVA's that I fitted to my runner Pumpkin are better because of the better mounting brackets. ;)

Which bit did you mean?, on the rear?

I am actually back to the standard shocks at the moment with the 3rd shock as well, and a 19*2 peak racing motor has replaced the rubbish ansmann motor that is pictured.

Standard shocks? Don't you mean pogo-sticks LOL! ;) Those 19x2 Peak Racing motors are actually pretty good. I've run them myself from time to time and still have a good one sitting in the the brushed motor pile. Probably will never fit it to a chassis again as I gave away my unlimited brushed ESC to a needy cause.

Have you checked out some of the strengthing and front end mods?

Yes pogo sticks, the cva's I had were from the rear of a Falcon and were a bit long for the pumpkin, I was just checking out all your mods earlier and your back yard track is so cool, I wish my back garden was bigger, but I have a big dog that likes to dig holes so I could never keep a track in as good condition as yours,

yes the motor really makes the pumpkin shift and still working with the original tamiya ESC( I guess I got lucky with that)

I may think about more mods to the pumpkin, but it's all about the money, or lack of at the moment!

what are you doing to your pumpkin? I run the badword out of mine and all I have ever broke was a servo, a tie rod and body mounts

Mostly I just run it in the garden which is full of holes thanks to my dog,

The chassis is fixed now(well new), I just took it out a minute ago and the wheel broke again and also a body mount, time for two new front wheels now!.

Maybe I need a bigger bumper, or a better driver ;) , the gardens not really big enough to run it but I do try.

Fixed again, found the broken piece of the body mount and glued it back on, I should have shares in superglue ;)

and nicked the front wheels from my QD beetle

Bits replaced so far,...

Chassis,

D parts

E parts

and front wheels

Not bad, I have been abusing this truck for a few years now.

Get one of these polycarbonate shells! it will save you body mounts in the long run.

I have had these shocks sitting on my desk for a while now after deciding they were too long for the pumpkin,

Then I came up with this, inspired by all the great mods I have seen here.

Hope you can make out what I have done from the pics, if not please ask.

I will tidy up the holes in the shell, looking at the last pic I think I have to.

That's it folks, untill I break it again or do the front.

I have a 17x2 LRP in my lunchie and it's the same as your's was, not much torque/wheelies but faster top end. Stick a brushless in it if you want to kill it completely, I stuck one in mine for a couple of packs and what a laugh, wheelies at 2/3 speed, such an animal! ;)

Oh and Lunchie C parts/mounts part number is 9005229 :D

Thanks Berman I have a 19*2 Peak Racing SV2 in there now, it's pretty torquey and wheelies hard, I think it's better since changing the suspension. ;)

saw mymonsterbeetleisbroken's brushless pumpkin go at Snetterton and it was a beast.
