A board with loads of pegs on it!!!

No, seriously it is!

Each peg has a frequency written on it, which matches up to a frequency written on the board.

There is only one of each channel. So if someone's running 27.095 mhz, they'll take the peg and put it back when they've finished. Whilst the peg is gone, it shows you can't use 27.095, as someone else already has it.

The board covers all the frequencies available.

Still, the modern thing to do is use a 2.4 ghz spectrum radio, but not everyones taken the financial plunge yet

Ah. So not foolproof then, as I'm sure people like me who have no idea what a peg board is, would just jump in with whatever crystal they have in their pre-ballooned receiver and hope for the best!

They're not hugely expensive so perhaps invest in a frequency checker ?

Retail is around 40.

Doesn't that rely on the offending transmitter being on at the same time as the checker?

Bit late to find out the other party's transmitter was off when you're sat on the line ;)

You can't beat the simplicity of a peg board

True, but the machine doesn't lie or forget to take the peg before switching on ;)

But with a peg board it's easy to spot the person in the wrong, it's the one without the peg.

I've seen vids and pictures, were they structured in races based on chassis type? I'm sure we could organise something like that, but we'd need to make sure everyone had the opportunity to run there cars/trucks so general playing about time would be needed too.

Yes, we usually divide the cars into classes based on the type, so all the Lunchboxes ran together, all the SRBs, all the modern 4WDs, etc. keeps everything on the track about the same performance so you don't have the problem of a modern TRF501X crashing into a Wild Willy it caught up with quickly.

What's your experience with these half frequencies? I have a blue/green and an orange/yellow (I think!) which seem to be alright for club racing...

I've got a complete set of these from X-Mods (cost me a tenner from a fellow TCer at Kidd 2007).

Have used them at bashes and had no issues with the frequencies on either side.

I have heard of problems with older radio gear though...

Its my carpet racer so a silver can as required by the rules - could easily fit something "warmer" though ^_^

Mine is warm. It used to be very hot put Ian ran it for 2 mins and smoked the 9x1 motor that was in it. Think its a 17t in it now but i do have a 8x1 kicking about with nothing to go in.

None of my cars have silver cans in apart from the Mardaves. biggest turn is the TA02RS which has a 20t from an XTM.

Nope mine neither and it goes against the grain to fit one but its more than enough on the tight twisty carpet track I race on. For something as open as Snetterton I might slip a hotter one in - I have a rubbish old Ansmann 20t that will suit it well as the M03 doesnt need the torque

The other TA02 has a 12x1, the rally Ta01 has a 12x2, the drift TT01 has a 19x1, BfootX has a superstock bz and god knows the the Stadium viper has.
