I have been watching e bay and noticed a suden swing to Kyosho..

Its mainly the first gerneration Optimas ( Optima, Turbo, Javelin, Salute and Pro ) and any parts or options to do with these.

The Mid's are still cheap but i think they will go up in a yr or so.

Im so lucky just picked up JRX 2 5 link and a optima pro with gold shocks and belt drive for around 200 pounds ($450) Au.

I really want a Turbo Ultima but getting out of my reach for now.

Anyone else noticed this big spike.

Cheers.

Mark.

I feel the same way too. Just saw an auction for an opt mid with box and extras like controller, charger, etc end at US$430. Not sure if I missed something, but I don't recall having seen a mid go for that amount.

I think that there is a big spike in Optima kitts.

I saw a Javelin roll cage sell for 150 US and a belt drive for over 200 US.

NEVER have i seen these crazy prices and the slump in our ecconemey is not to do with it..

I am just finishing my Optima runner (loaded with hop-ups) and I may sell it, as it is getting so valuable. Kyosho was the poor cousing to vintage Tamiya stuff, but it has spiked.

Recently I've seen:

A few used original Optimas sold on average for about $100

A Gold Celebration Optima Chassis sold for $275 NIP

An open package new condition Optima Mid/Lazer bumper sold for $75

A recent Optima Mid built with box went for $385

The last few Optima Mids sold for over $100

Let's see, last year towards the end of summer I got:

A used Gold Celebration Chassis AND an Optima parts car for $30!

A used Optima Pro, w/original red shocks, no body for $56

A nice Optima Mid runner w/gold shocks used for $80

I also saw an NIP Gold Celebration Chassis kit sell for $15 on another forum as well as $30 for a NIP Optima belt drive conversion.

Just my observations.

Dollar price of a reasonable NIB Optima Turbo last year from a shop (ie not a dodgy anyone's guess auction price which could be sniper/shilled or just lucky) was $955. Recently the same seller had one at $1,550. This seller isn't greedy, I often watch his buy prices (off eBay) and he doesn't have a heavy margin, he is also cautious and doesn't like helping push up prices in Japan, so I reckon the prices may have been due to go up. Also $950 last year was not even 500. Now $1,550 is well over 1000 so it has more than doubled in UK standards.

Bear in mind not only one factor influences prices nowadays. I also feel Tamiya have made too many re issues of late and this has hurt their values a little bit. I think however that despite the argument that now re issues would be easier/cheaper for them to do because of the investment already made, that Tamiya will slow down on this front for exactly the same economic reasons.

What is the deal with that Turbo Optima that recently sold on fleabay for $1359?! Item Number 330316452083. Anyone see anything special about it? Did I miss something? The body was also a repro body (nothing wrong with that) but the price woah!

I didn't see anything special about it other than it was a new build. There was another Turbo Optima that sold recently for $300 also a new build. What's with the huge price difference? My guess is that someone put a very high bid thinking they wouldn't get outbid but they somehow got called. The thing is there is also a brand new in box one (slight damage to box and blister but new) going for a little less that what this one in question sold for.

*edit - also to add, it didn't come with the original box, manual or anything else.

The price is far over the normal prices for what it is. One of the high bidders is no longer registered, so perhaps a bit of shill bidding?

The seller is on these forums. He has another Turbo Optima auction going that is up in less than a day, and is currently going for way less. I think it is better than the one that sold for $1359. I am watching it to see how much it will sell for. He is also selling an Optima. He responded to a question on eBay and said they were painted by a professional who does box art bodies for RC companies.
