Greetings all,

I have decided to create a separate topic for each of my Monster rebuilds/restorations rather than mixing them all up in one topic. Each rebuild is different, and in my opinion deserves a separate topic.

This is my second rebuild, and it is dramatically different from the first. I had to completely strip it down to its component parts because there was a break in the chassis and I wanted to clean each individual part. It seems the previous owner decided to apply axle grease every where, which made cleaning a very slow process.

For an unknown reason it came fitted with a MSC from a Holiday Buggy/Sand Rover.

Once every thing was striped I cleaned all the parts.

I then started to put all the components back together, this was a slow process because the last time I did this I was about 15 years old. I replaced the broken Chassis half, and other parts that become worn and broken. To get the chassis looking shiny I polished it with a dremel type tool using a buffing pad.

Once the chassis was together I then started on the gearbox.

I feared what I would find inside considering the rest of the car was covered with axle grease.

Once opened every looked fine and seemed to of seen very little action.

Every thing was then striped, cleaned and then put together with the addition of race bearings.

I then started on replacing the speed controller with an original MB unit. I took the speed controller from my personal car that I have had since a kid. However, for some reason there was a smaller gap between the servo and the speed controller on my car than this one.

This meant I had to fully extend the servo rod. After some adjustment it worked just fine.

Thanks, to clean the chassis I used soapy water with a coarse sponge, and then I buffed it with a dremel type tool using a buffing pad.

I saw a set of gear box internals on ebay I think there were about 7

very nice mb you have there. Wish mine looked like that  Now I feel like putting my mb back to standard with the msc and old servos, :0

Anyone have a spare beetle shell they want to sell? Can be fit for the bin only, as long as it resembles a mb shell.

Following MB project number 1, I have got this one ready for an undercoat . I will use Halfords Plastic primer (red) and my home made oven using two halogen heaters as I did previously.

The brackets that hold the 3 spotlights had broken off the nose cone; rather than gluing the brackets back on I decided to make new ones that would be a lot stronger. I think tamiya's design for the spotlights was a very weak point on the MB, any slight front impact would break off the spotlights.

I used a two hole Meccano piece. I Angled it back so it would sit inside the nose cone I than used chemical weld to secure it. I built up a few layers and it is now rock solid, a lot stronger than the original. This method can also be used to convert the Blitzer nose cone to except Spotlights.

WOW! What a stellar job you did on that rebuild! I didnt expect the type of result you got.. looking sweet man.. a vintage piece with an updated look

classic

Thanks Medic. Keep a look out for my rebuild No3 - I will add a lot of customized parts to it and stray from the original box art.

What sort of customized parts where you thinking for No: 3 & have you decided what colour scheme you are going for yet???

I am adding a good spec ESC, raced bearings, upgraded diffs and 'maybe' a BZ motor and new shocks. With regards to the colour scheme not sure yet, but if I do go original I will add different decals.

I will start the topic soon. I will appreciate your input once the pictures are up.
