Hey guys,

I have a Grasshopper II, and am having a heck of a time getting the steering correct...

I get full throw when steering to the right, but when steering left, the servo pulls the left wheel in fine, but won't push the right out far enough to get the thing to turn properly.

I tried bending the right tie rod a little, so it wouldn't contact the chassis, and I also carved some space in the chassis so it wouldn't make contact.

It seems as if the upward movement of the servo throw only lifts the tie rod up, rather than pushing it outward towards the wheel.

Any suggestions?

I thought about centering the servo as much as possible, and also adding a larger(longer) medium sized servo saver to get more leverage, but not sure if this will work...

I'm wondering if there is too much slop in the servo saver and it is opening up or gapping instead of pushing the tie rod out like its supposed to?

It's a problem with all Grasshopper II s , It's a problem for almost all tamiya cars with uneven steering rod lenghts actually.

I solved it on My hopped up Grasshopper II by centering the servo save to the chassis, I used a Hitec Mighty Mini Servo, and re-inforced the left side of the chaissis with two part epoxy putty and then widened the opening for the steering linkage to the right so that it became centered, I then made custom equal lenght steering rods to connect it all together.

The steering opening in the image is a little narrow and resticts the steering travel, but it did solve the problem of uneven steering, widening the opening in both direction and a longer servo saver will solve this.

Can someone reccomend a servo saver please. I'm having to change the steering servo on mine. The servo saver couples to the old servo with a square head. The new servo has a spline shaft. Any suggestions?

The number for the original parts which includes a suitable part is 115065.

Thanks

I always prefer Trickbits servo savers

or Kimbroughs. can't tell you exactly which one to get as that depends on your make of servo. The medium size ones are probably the best size for this.

Found the part I needed in a servo saver kit from Irvine.

Label says it's a CEN Servo saver. Instructions call it a GX21.

Which is a replacement for a SP25 off of a Mini Madness.

Used the servo couple with the original parts. Worked a treat.

Also made a battery cover from some old drain pipe

Runs pretty well now. Slight issue with a very noticeable delay in reverse engaging.

There is also a high pitch whine when reversing.

Think it's something to do with the Ansmann Sirius 18 ESC I fitted the other day. Already being discussed in The All things Electrical forum.

Thanks
