Yes it all can if your just changing the battery.

The stock tamiya esc doesn't have a low voltage cut off though, which you should run with a Lipo battery.

Tnx for the feedback!! highly appreciated. Ok so it is jz the problem with low voltage cut off, i thought lipo batteries would strip the stock gears and burn the stock esc. How about brushless motors? how low can it tolerate?

Tnx!!!

A lipo will not make a stock motor hardly any faster than a NIMH or NICD. The thing with lipo is it is capable of providing the amps that low turn or brushless motors crave. A lipo low voltage cutoff is a must as a lipo will be junk if discharged to much. Lipo is lighter and and has way more runtime than a equal mah NIMH and provides the same punch and voltage all the way to the end.

Esc will not be hurt as the lipo does not push more power into the motor rather just provides what the motor wants.

I run a 4100mah lipo in my df03 with a Sidewinder 4600kv brushless + slipper with no problems and it is silly fast and get 40 minute runtimes.

It will be fine with lipo, but as others have said you need a lipo cutoff. I'm using the Novak Smart Stop on my escs which don't have it built in and it works great.

Make sure you get the 2S version though to match your 7.4v lipo.
