Finally got my Dark Impact yesterday and got a few hours last night to start it...

Parts of the rear diff need instant cement...which i mistook for grease, only realised after i got the whole rear gearbox screwed together...will this matter, everything tight and working as it should...im just wondering.......man that was awkward.

Also - bodyshell......paint or spray.....do you have to use specific tamiya paint or can any paint do..?

Not sure about the gearbox thing, as I don't have one of these cars. At a guess I'd say you really need to do it properly. It might feel ok now, but after a few runs it might be a different story.

As for the paints - Tamiya "PS" type spray cans are hard to beat. You need to use the PS - NOT the TS paints (PS for Polycarbonate, TS for hard plastic). Make sure you take your time, wash the shell with detergent and dry well before spraying. Many thin coats is the best way to go. Don't worry if the first ones are patchy - it will even out with more coats.

Looking purely at the manual, I wouldn't run this car like that. You may get a away with it for now, but jumps or big power motors could causes those parts to slip. I am sure its only a matter of time.

If they start to slip excessively you might damage the plastic parts involved. Well worth sitting down and cleaning it and rebuilding it correctly.

Agree, its one thing to change something with a better or performance part but anything less than the manual Id worry.

To be on the safe side Id use the stuff the manual states.

Dont let it get tto you, everyone has done something like that or put something together then taken it apart and then put back together as it wasnt right first time ;)

Yeah I know...the heart sinks at the thought of un-doing all my good work....lol.....took forever just to make a gearbox.

but you are all right, a stitch in time and all that.

Having trouble getting a tin of PS-5 spray ordered...............**** northern irish postcode, they don't want to know.

Dark Impact's diff pressure plates are keyed to the housing plate, so I don't think it will slip. Some of the other kits like the TA05 tell you to 'stick' the diff plates to the housing with ball diff grease. I think it will be fine.

If you were building a DB01, then you would definitely have to rebuild the diff, since the diff plates are not keyed on this car, they're just round washers, so they have to be cemented to the diff housing.

But the trick with a ball differential is not to use too much grease anyway.
