Df03/df03ra Gearbox Cover

Has anybody actually put a DF03 "M" part gear cover part # 0115365 on a DF03RA chassis? (The cover over the spur/pinion)

I purchased a Topcad DF03 gear cover w/ the plate and when I tried to install it would not allow the rear upper arm to connect to the ball end without binding.

I would like to be able to cover my gears as I have both sets of spur gears for my DF03RA chassis 75, 78, 82, 85. I really want to know if a "M" parts tree for a DF03 specifically with the gear cover will work on a DF03RA.

Someone had mentioned they couldn't imagine why they would change the M parts as far as the gear cover between the two but I think it has to do with the shorter suspension arms.

If you look at a 03RA where the inner ball end is you can see how a regular DF03 gear cover might be too big. Just because the upper suspension arms are shorter. Let me know. Any info is appreciated!!

I think I have a similar problem. I have a regular DF03 and shortened the wheelbase by flipping the rear arms around. With the upper arms now pointing slightly forwards they are in the way of the gear cover. I haven't seen the TOPCAD gear cover, but I think the only way to make it fit (like the standard cover) is to vile a part out of the cover.

I was looking at doing this too but the clearance with the ball end is almost nill with the stock cover and i do not think it will fit..But since i installed my ezrun the 78/29 gearing seems to be working awesome no overheating issues...

Thanks for the replies, What ezrun setup do you have in yours? I picked up a 5.5t setup. I wondered if it might be a little too much. I just went back and switched out all of my aluminum arms and c hubs and stuff back to the plastic. Don't know why. Something told me to do that. Right now it has been raining for the last three days and I haven't had a chance to run the car with the 82/23 setup.

I purchased the smoke gear cover set. part number 49434. I can confirm this DOES NOT fit the DF03-RA. The parts tree is infact different and the gear cover doesnt fit it. Gutted because I wanted the smoke/clear cover for funky looks.

I did see this post earlier on a previous search but took the risk anyway, but I can confirm this parts tree does not fit the DF03-RA.

Guess I could sell it on but ive already cut them off the tree so im just going to have some spares that are no use.

I decided to tackle this problem again today.

Here is some pics to show where Im at now.

The two cover differences. The bevel makes room for the camber tie rod at the rear.

How the old one looks in there against the camber tie rod.

A bit of trimming here and there to make it all fit but its a tight squeeze. I might have to trim some more off.

Its a bit of squeeze in there but it all sort of fits. Ill see how it drives and if its ok but I came across another problem.

Big gap between the cover and the motor mount meaning grit can get into the spur area. I think this is because the screw holes are ever so slightly out making the whole cover bow a bit raising it up. I might be able to fit this. Or use some sealant, any ideas?

Do you think "slotting out" the screw hole will work? so that you can allow the cover to align and seal properly.

Maybe this "slotting" might require you to do a bit more trimming on the outer cover.

Yeah thats what i was thinking, I havent had a chance to go out to the shed and try yet but I was going to leave one hole in place and elongate the other hole to stop it pinching the whole cover up. Theres actually a lip thats missing that there is on the newer DF03RA cover, it lays over the edge of the motor mount which this one doesnt have.

Isn't the DF03 chassis the off road 4wd?

Yeah the df03 is the offroad buggy chassis and there is the modified DF03RA which is a lot more like an on road in width and suspension travel. The kits come with rally shells on.
