I recently got a 65-turn lathe motor for my Pajero, in order to slow it down and make it more hill-friendly. I had been running the truck with an old Duratrax Streak ESC that I had lying around. The Streak is one of the old-school 60hz ESCs, that make the low-pitched hum at low speeds. It worked fine with the 540, but with the lathe motor, there is no low-speed control at all. It sits there doing nothing, then kicks in and lurches forward. Full-throttle is fine, but it's even harder to control a slow takeoff than with an old mechanical speed control.

I'm assuming that a higher-frequency ESC will be smother, but my choices, that I already have, are a TEU101BK or an old Novak Rooster (which I think is 1000hz). Does anyone know the frequency of the 101? Has anyone used it with a high-turn lathe motor? Or do I just have to bite the bullet and get a "real" ESC?

The rooster will be more than adequate. The TEU-101 don't have as many steps as the rooster but I've used mine in a Humvee with 55T with no issues.
