Looking at my Tamiya Lunchbox, was playing with it at the beach, the lights can hold LEDs, at least in the headlights.

Wondering if someone here could point me to an LED light kit for the Lunchbox

My kit does not include LED bulb holders, no option parts indicated in the manual either

It's one of those 'creative' upgrades AFAIK.

I have 5mm LEDs to fit in mine. I've cut the rear lights and grill indicator lights from the van too so I can fit lenses. I'm a long way from fitting the lights so not even looked at wiring yet. I'm still cutting doors from the main part of the body and making a custom flare kit (Slammed custom VLB on a shortened M04 chassis).

I bought the R/C Light bulb set Item 50320 for my Pumpkin, it comes with the led holders and the screws and the power wire/adapter,

Don't know if the lights are the same for the lunchy but you get 2 leds for the front lights!

Hope that helps

Yep, there is a dedicated Tamiya set for the VLB - I have it in mine.

What part number? All I can find is this universal fit sets: Tamiya #53909 - Tamiya LED Light Unit (TLU-01) (Basic lights) and the #53937 TLU-02 which also has some functions.

Nevermind, I found it: TamiyaUSA list of compatible chassis with #50320. Image looks like bulbs and not LEDs. Anyone??

As said, Don't know if it's the same set for the lunchbox but there is a set of these on the bay at the moment!, 50320

I have no idea what the part number is, got it off eBay - advertised as a light set for LunchBox/Pumpkin and I'm sure it said so on the back of the box. Threw the box away though...

TBH - they're not great anyway. Give a little glow, but that fades on punch even with a decent ESC. They're about as bright as the sidelights on my Austin Allegro.

My LHS didnt have it in stock so i decided to remove the tlu01 light kit from my tt01 and install it in the Lunchbox, the 5mm led bulb from tamiya fits right in however it has no tabs to secure the bulb in the housing. so i used my spare tabs from the tt01 and held the bulb in place by screwing the tab the other way around. barely holds the bulb in place but so far after a 15 minute hard run it did not fall.

STOP STOP STOP

No need to buy expensive light kits, just buy 2 brilliant white 5mm LEDs from maplins for a few £, cut a nic in the rubber shrink wrap on both wires of the power wires for the ESC (the one that connects to the battery) then solder the two LEDS in series (one wire soldered to + then a wire from the - to the + of the 2nd led and a wire off the 2nd led -) then solder these to the ESC wires. you can easily add a switch (i used the spare one from my radio gear) and solder that to one of the wires in front of the led series so you can easily turn them on and off. I attached the switch to the right side of the chassis at the top back where there is a little hole molded in the chassis, you could wire up more LEDs (red ones for the rear) if you want.

To hold the leds in place i just used a bit of the plastic parts tree, the rectangular thin flat bit that usually has the parts tree number or letter on it. I created a hole at one end for a little screw and a thin slit at the other to slot in the two metal parts of the led. Screw in and then black insulate tape them in to help keep them dirt/water free and stops any light leaking.

Yep the Tamiya kit is bulbs and not LEDs and as such, like HereBeMonsters says, they are very poor.

I had the kit in my Lunchy but took it out as it really didn't have the effect I wanted. The kit is kinda useful just for the bulb holders, wiring and plugs though.

So there you have it folks, get the TLU01 kit with LEDs instead of the official part 50320.
