I have a original sand scorcher body that has a crack from the center of the windshield to the sunroof. I would like to know whats the best way to repair it and what should I use to repair it?

If it's for a runner you can buy Blitzer Beetle body parts on the bay!, the Sand Scorcher glass does come up occasionally but you must wait for someone else to comfirm compatability between the two!,

Good Luck!

By the sounds of it you'll need to re-enforce the shell underneath the crack. I can't remember whether or not the windscreen goes right over that section on the Scorcher (mines in the attic at the moment so can't look).

Assuming you can get something underneath, I would tend to approach this kind of repair by re-enforcing under the crack with some pasticard and epoxy adheasive (the slow drying one - it sets harder) before making good the top-side and repainting.

With any serious crack like that you have lost strength in the shell, and for that reason you might need to anticipate it's going to crack again through the new paintwork you do with only a relatively small amount of stress on it.

Cleverly places stickers can help a great deal in hiding that kind of damage also.

Use Ambroid Pro-Weld or Tenax 7R: They're solvents that melt plastic, not just adhesives (Best Billy Mays voice, "This is NOT A GLUE!!") The water-thin formula will wick into the joint by capillary action from the backside: Reinforce with a thin, .020 or so piece of styrene, and bingo! Chris

I would go with epoxy with a little bit of fiberglass cloth to add strength and something for the epoxy and shell to adhere to. you can buy the 50/ 50 mix at auto supply stores or hardware stores. the double syringe type is easy to use and get the right mix. fiberglass comes in different weaves. the smaller the weave the easy it is to handle. 4oz glass works well. cut patch to extend beyond the area of the crack. on the inside, sand the area for the patch before applying. no need to use excessive amounts of epoxy. just enough to saturate the patch. you will need to work quickly so have everything ready to go before mixing the epoxy. I used the method to fix my super champ shell which was tattered after a lot of abuse, and it is now stronger than new.

Have you guys ever try baking soda with super glue?

First put on some cyanoacrylate on the joint and wait till it dries. (zap-a-cup at the green bottle is the best). Then put on the joint with your finger some baking soda. Put some drops of cyano again until the soda gets full wet and let dry. Beware of fumes and heat cause you got a very strong reaction here.

First time try it somewhere else not in your model and you be amazed.

The cyano must be thin so it can penetrate the soda.
