Hi.

A mate of mine has just bought a blackfoot extreme after me nagging him to get back into Tamiya and he wants to fit some oil shocks. I know this thing shares the same chassis as a few other models but I can't seem to find the right shocks to recommend to him.

Does anyone know what the right size to go for it?

Cheers.

Depends what you want from it really. I've got some GPM TL01 shocks on mine and it sits quite low (think stadium truck) but you can get the ally shock towers and fit almost anything. I did have some EMaxx shocks for such a job but never got round to getting the shock tower so got rid of them.

Should have given me a shout he could have had mine...

Bummer, thanks tho!

I thinks its going to be for general bashing, so it needs an improvement on what is already there really. Suppose we could measure the distance between the mounts and there work from there?

Yeah but without the shock towers (ebay, search for "wild dagger" as it uses same chassis as BFX and they're £15 a pair), you'll only be able to fit reasonably short shocks - hence my TL01 oil shocks (again ebay, search "wild dagger" and you can buy four for £20 from HK). With the towers most longer shocks will fit, if you want serious travel you can pick up a set of 8 used Traxxas Tmaxx shocks on ebay, which would work well with the towers I think.

Hope that helps.

I got 3" Carson Alloy Shocks on my Mighty Bull (same chassis as BFEX) and they fit fine on there own and give good ground clearance without the alloy shock towers.

If you want bigger shocks, and have got yourself the alloy towers, then look at the Ansmann range of alloy shocks as their cheap as chips for bashing.

I have some on my King Blackfoot and recently got myself a set for my Rising Storm.

They come in 65mm/75mm/85mm and 95mm and are only £8.99 a pair.

Kind Regards

I use 4" Traxxas shocks. Of course, this means you need new shock towers. The ones I have are from xtreme rc. There's a few pics in my showroom.

I've had a quick look in your showroom, love the orange BF! Great colour!

It looks a little high on 4 inchers, is that with the shell sat at its lowest point? Otherwise I love it!

You know, I'm not sure where I have the body sitting on the posts. I'll have to check. One thing I did do was use a softer spring. The pictures on the bottom half are with the black springs which are way too stiff and make the truck look too high. On the top two pics, I have the red springs which are softer.
