I can only recall seeing one guy say he didn't like the re-release because of all the effort and expense he'd gone to in restoring Rough Riders over the years. And a few others (me included) saying they weren't really interested enough to buy it, but could see some benefits to come out of it.

Aside of that, it's been non-stop re-re excitement and happiness, to an almost evangelical level. It's nice to see some life in these old boards again, but I've been a bit hesitant to say much.... I didn't want to be dragged out to the town square and whipped for being a suspected anti-Re-Re-RR heretic :D

Can't we all just let people say what they want, tip a bucket on those who personally attack others, and get along? :D

Sometimes I go for a year without posting or reading here, because it's simply too draining when mere opinions are attacked or dissected into tiny pieces in a bid to 'prove' your perspective is wrong.

TC has always prided itself in being the friendly R/C board. Sadly, many valuable writers have departed for negative reasons that were unable to be resolved, but could have been prevented if others were more tolerant and reasonable.

As you were...

cheers,

H.

ROB (H) - I cant find the clapping hands emoticon - but good on you mate. I just visit here a few times a week now - I moderate where I have to - but like you - have grown tired on the endless tripe that gets blurted out of seemingly mindless individuals.

For what it is worth - here are my takes on it all:

"Collectors" are most DEFINATELY NOT ALL RICH. (some are - but dont hate them cause they have the same passion as you - they can like toy cars as well you know)

"Collectors" arent just in it for the money. (some may be - but are going to be horribly dissapointed in 20 years time when compared to other "ïnvestments")

"Collectors" could care less about the re-re cars - because they like the originals. They mostly are excited by the re-re's because they can go out and blast one around.....

For goodness sake - I dont know how many times the same old rubbish comes up over and over and over again.

COLLECT BECAUSE YOU WANT TO COLLECT. DONT COLLECT BECAUSE SOMEONE ELSE IS. DO IT FOR YOU - NO ONE ELSE.

Enjoy the hobby for what it is guys - rich owner, poor owner, used or NIB......IT IS ABOUT THE LOVE OF THE HOBBY AND ITS HISTIORY THAT SHOULD BIND US.

Lets talk about how great it is that Tamiya is proud enough of its heritage to release some of its classics...god knows I wish some others would!

For what it is worth - it looks to me like the wheel hexes are a 12mm hex with the old style face plate on them on the new RR re-release. Thats the way it looks from the pics and if this is correct, then that could make for a nice conversion part. Great for making some more modern cars a little more "vintage".

Cheers

Ah, forgot! Thanks.

Added to the new parts:

New rear axles

How about the name?

Are we going to call it "Rough Rider"?

Is it to many changes so it'll be Buggy Champ?

It says Buggy Champ on blister packing...

just got off the phone to a client of mine who runs an online model shop (i look after his website)

anyway I have been badgering him to stock 58441, so he phoned up his contact at the Hobby Company.

He just called me back and said he had been speaking to the MD of the Hobby Company, who has just returned from Japan and is super-excited about this new release!

He said the UK traders should be getting the details and info about this release by the end of the week.

So it will be on my client's site on pre-order soon, for shipping (hopefully) in July. The site is http://www.emodels.co.uk

I will post up a link when the product has been added.

No idea of a UK price as of yet though.

exciting stuff!

my 2 cents-

1 it gets real annoying when you have an old rc thats hard to get parts for!

2 n.i.b.'s will still hold value because its original.

3 some of the new parts will be slightly different, hopefully stronger more durable.

4 some of the r.c.'s are really cool.some of the new ones are not,no matter how fast.

5 certain original parts will still be hard to get.

6 some new parts may have dates on them, like the radio box or body's may say

buggy champ 2009 that make it destinguisable from the original.

7 as you've allready seen on the front tires, which may change with

production who know's.

8 some people need to sell old parts to buy there kid a christmas present

or have a turkey for thanksgiving and they need the money.

9 no matter how many rere's come out people will still collect originals.

10 new more durable aftermarket parts may come out if theres a rere out

that we can use on our old ones.

11 even though i collect rc i usually only keep ones i liked when i was a kid.

a couple years ago i sold a n.i.b. mountaneer on ebay to get money to get

the parts for cars that i needed. its not my fault they bid them up so high.

i have a brand new srb radio box in sealed plastic, I told my fateher

i seen go for 350 us on the web he said i should sell it.and i said but if i get a srb

i might need it.now i might sell it. or keep it .who knows? i always need more parts.

sorry to be so long winded.

SO QUIT BELLY ACHING AND ENJOY THE RIDE!!

SKIP p.s. please add replys, why not

Anybody have an idea of battery and charger costs yet ,Also spare parts cost I have been looking online but its still pretty quiet really .It would be good to purchase a Battery and if it needs a special charger to buy these items before hand ..I can just see us all now with built cars and no batteries or spares :D

Any ideas would be gratfully appreciated .

Thanx guys

Stuart

The price of a battery and charger kit LF2200-6.6V Racing Pack & LF-6.6V Battery DC Charger Set Item No: 55104 here in the Tamiya store in Singapore is about USD 220 list. No idea how much the 1100 pack will cost.

For this kit, I'd probably see if I can use my Tamtech packs.

The first Buggy Champ crash ever!!! :D

Badboy

Wow, in that footage it does look quite oversprung and under-damped, I wonder if there will be a selection of pistons in the new dampers? Maybe some extra weight will help :D

I personally like my off roaders to have softer springs than normal, mostly because I like seeing the suspension action..

I've been advised the following this morning:

The car is a re-release of the Rough Rider, but every part has been retooled and most parts are strengthened.

Anticipated Release for Europe is July.

It WILL take a NIMH hump pack. The UK importer is looking into sourcing a sensibly priced NIMH Hump as the LiFo battery Tamiya show is both expensive and needs a special (i.e. Lipo type) charger which would put the price up significantly for those who do not already have such a charger, on top of what is already a premium item price-wise.

And... it is called Buggy Champ because aparantly since Tamiya used the name in the 80's, "Rough Rider" has been registered as a trade mark for a brand of condoms.

I think it'll be easier to find Lipo pack that's similar in size with the LiFe packs Tamiya has introduced.

But any word on replacement parts? If I'm going to run this, I'm going run it really rough :D

Posted
a pic of the type of hump pack it will use?

I understand it'll take a hump in the shape of the original ones, although what would be made today would be shrink wrapped rather than in a hard casing.

Spares will be available after release, like with all Tamiya kits. But I suspect, like with all Tamiya kits, the spares will follow a few weeks after the kits - so initially anything on sale will be broken down kits at a premium price... just a guess, judging by what happens on virtually every release that is :D

The new specific Tamiya charger and battery pack already on ebay...185 GBP (LiFE2200 #55104)

Battery alone 72GBP gulp...

I'll get a few hump packs 3700 from vapextech for 12 GBP for now then...

Yes, yes all very good...but did you get any information on the Sand Scorcher?

On a serious note, I wonder if Tamiya have completely re-tooled for all of the other re-releases? If not it just reinforces how significant this kit is and suggests that there must surely be one of the other SRBs on the way.

"Rough Rider" and now "Hump" packs? Is this a bunch of SRB lovers getting together in groups to... Okay, I'm outta here.

The issue with the Original radio box and the shrink wrapped sub Cs is they don't locate in the radio box. The original hard plastic case battery fitted into the raised locators in the radio box see below...

My Showroom

Where as the shrink wrapped sub Cs just bounce around and bang the delicate radio gear. I have seen a very good LiPo hump pack where the person opened an old 7.2v hump and put in a flight 1200mAh soft pack LiPo and re-sealed it. I however use just the bottom of the old 7.2v (or 6v) packs and put the battery pack in it.
