Ok, this is *******in' great. Finally I can finish my scorcher with some new parts. Build A BNIB RR myself and run it. If it comes with the metal parts as back in the days it is just the way this buggy was meant to be. How cool is that :)

However the link says kit requires PS paint. While the text in this thread says it comes with an ABS hardshell. I hope it will come with the ABS shell, as it is way nicer. But I am afraid many of the modern people think ABS is not the way to go as it can break more easily. Only looks uglier... Well I think they will do it the same as with the Brat, ABS an Lexan. Hmm we will see.

Wow, wasn't expecting this! It begs the question though, what's next?

Who cares as long as it was vintage or Rare ..But personally The SS,FAV are cool ...But I will settle for a RE RE RR beggers cant be choosers .It would definatly be in Tamiya's interest to start re re the oldies profit wise as their popularity has skyrocketed in the last few years I dont think Tamiya would ever regret re re these cars more money in their pocket at the end of the day ,Thats what matters in Buisness .Lets just hope they re re these in vast numbers as it seems every man and their dog wants one .

Could anyone quote the original source please. I mean I want the links to the original Tamiya posting. I could not find it!

I was expecting Tamiya to re-release an SRB but not at this time and not with die cast parts and not with a box that contains blisters! Mr. Tamiya told in february 09 that the rc industry faces strong wind and that the are prepared to attack in 2009. If the re-re of SRBs is true, did he have this mind?

The re-re of SRB might be the positive side effect of the world economic crisis. I mean these cars are a must buy, even if people are facing hard times, the true collector and tamiya fan will surely buy at least one kit.

Wonder how the japanese market is performing at the moment? Not so well, I think, so they were forced to do something.

On the other hand, how many collectors and fans are there worldwide? 7.000 - 10.000?

Holy ****!!!! Have you seen the buggies list on TamiyaUSA??? Not only an RR 2009, but also a DF03-RA version of both the 94 Celica (unfortunately I think it is the one with the four round lights on the front, but still very cool) and Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IV!!! Tamiya's going crazy!! :)

The 58441 probably indeed isn't the right model number since it already exists - but I do hope it's an '58' - not a limited one. I'm curious to see whether it is indeed an actual re-release or if it is a more modern chassis. Both would be cool, although it should be scale. So lets just hope they don't abuse the name to make the car look like something it isn't (like they did with the Avante Mk.II)!

Castrol Celica is great news too. I almost bought the older Celica GT4 kit the other day. I will wait for the DF03RA version now.

Tamiya got to get License to both VW and EMPI for the body!

So probably no...

Why EMPI?, I know who EMPI is I have a few EMPI parts on my 1:1 car, but why do Tamiya need licence from EMPI as well as VW?

and also as it's not actually called a VW, do they need a licence for it?

I might be tempted to buy a RR and fit a blitzer shell.

I might be tempted to buy a RR and fit a blitzer shell.= Blitzer body shell prices through the roof :)

Yep - you can expect an increase in value of the Scorcher body (although people might hesitate buying this because the chance on a Scorcher re-re is much greater), Super Champ parts and the front bodyposts (so people can change from RR to something else), a drop on the original RR value (especially the NIBs) might already be visible on ebay in the coming weeks.

I am hesitating... Buy one and get an even more crowded room (whilst I already have an SRB) or skip purchasing it since I already have one... :P

Because it's generally accepted that the fibreglass front end conversion is a replica of the Empi one.

As for it not being called it VW, it's irrelevant, it has a VW badge on it, which is a trademark & subject to licensing fees.

Why do you think Tamiya stopped putting Ford on the tailgate of the Blackfoot shells & put 4x4x4 on the Clod grille ? :)

OK cool, thanks for clearing that up for me!

And Badboy, thanks for that! :P

So I wonder if this will have a radiobox like the original as that description from the Tamiya Blog said something about have a radio mounting setup like the super champ had.

There were a ton of Blitzer/Monster beetle shells on eBay a month or so back. I wonder if someone knows something.... ?

I picked up a couple, so I'm in good stock :)

Then presumably there can't be any licensing issues, so a SS re-re would be in the bag ?

That would beg the question why they havent re-re'd the Monster Beetle if that was the case as they have already done the chassis with the Frog/Brat re-re

I guess its just not what the Japanese market wants which is their biggest market base.
