Yeah really annoying how long it takes and the fact they charge storage fee for having it as well, I expected to have to pay customs and vat

on it, as lately everything i have had from abroad has been charged unless its in the EU!

and seeing all thse pics of kits everyone has already is making me want it even more!

I was a bit concerned my 2 NIB's were going to cop the wrath of Australian customs but they slipped through and EMS tracking tells me they are at my local post office waiting for me to collect them tomorrow morning .

You guys have it hard on customs duty costs why is your threshold on items so low ??.Is it that they want you to spend your dollars in country and not go off shore ??

We get the raw deal on a lot of things over here and so do our cousins in New Zealand but when it comes to customs at least we get a fair deal I just dont get why you guys in the UK and Europe are not given the same fair go .

For the most part (in the UK at least) what you're paying is the VAT that the purchase would have attracted had it been bought over-the-counter in the UK. (plus a handling/storage/processing charge). it's not an import duty as such, it's a sales tax levied on all luxury item sales in the UK.

The post office/revenue&excise seem a lot more strict on applying it than they used be 5 or 6 years ago which is why I tend not to buy large-ticket items from outside the EU any more. the charges (and shipping costs) effectively wipe out any saving that would have been gained by importing. this is why I decided to get my BC from Time Tunnel...

Not sure if this has been brought up before, but the blister packs are "different" than the originals. I haven't got a camera handy, so hopefully rcgrabbag won't mind me linking to his showroom:

If you look closely at the blue blister pack around the lower half of the motor, you can see the plastic goes a bit crazy. And it feels a bit thinner and more flexible than the originals too. The blister around the tyres in one of my kits was also dented from it's journey to Canada ... I'm guessing because it's a little less solid.

Not complaining by any means - it's awesome to have new kits with the *real* packaging again, but just in case you get yours and wonder if you got a "bad" one, I think they're all like that =)

Sure does seem to happen a lot more to me lately, I still think i will of saved some but not much, then at moment i dont know the cost of

tamiya life battery and charger here in UK so might save more than i think!

Certainly will look more closely at costs next time and decide if its worth it!

I believe the more strict rules can be attributed to Mr. Bush and his influence on Blair. While we in the US do not pay customs fees unless the package is over $400, I have noticed things getting stuck in customs quite often as well. I used to buy 12 kg of coffee from Italy and have it parcelled to me. Can no longer do that. They wont allow it in, unless I use Fed Ex or UPS. All this heightened security is such nonsense.. i'd like to see the percentage of times they actually find a package with contents that are a real threat. Probably 1%. I was hoping under Obama some of these paranoid tactics would be relaxed. We shall wait and see.

For those that have their BC.. Will it work with the Black Can sport tuned motor? Will the holes line up on the gear box and motor cover?

Here in Sweden we have to pay for every thing and I mean EVERY THING!!!

It's not very often stuff slips thru customs here, but if it does it's a huge bonus!!! ;)

Mate.....did you have to pay any import duty costs to Aussie Customs @ all???? I am just getting back into the hobby after a number of years (20) out having seen that the 'Rough Rider' has been re-released, and of course hopefully the SS in due course!!

I'm looking at importing a couple of BC kits myself but wondering if in the long run it might pay to wait till the kit is released in Aus. I have been given a rough quote by a Hobby Store of $450-$500AUD.

Cheers

Hi.

I got my 2x NIB Buggy Champs (T-Shirt release) and 2x Tamiya Batteries for these cars in the post today it cost me AUD $840.00 Plus change to get them from RC Champ in Japan that price included postage with EMS tracking .

I didnt cop any customs fee's at all and they arrived within a week after being sent from Japan and very well packed.

Rule of thumb with Aussie customs is up to AUD $1000.00 your pretty safe over that and you cop customs duties .

The kits themselves cost 19900 Yen each = which converts to about AUD $254.92 At the moment

The Batteries were 3680 Yen each = about AUD $ 47.53 At the moment

Plus postage off course .

And a Paypal fee.

But as our $$$ goes up and down daily prices change but not too drastically.

I think if you do the sums you will see its cheaper to buy from Overseas than in Aussie Toy Traders ask for their pound of flesh their mark-up value is a killer (Thats if they release them here dont hold your breath though).

Hope that helps

***Note *** Anybody if you ever get caught with customs its a good idea to phone them up and get a correct number to put on your decleration form this can save you extra $$$ on Taxes as I found out when I brought my NIB SS from the US .I avoided the Tariff fee's and just paid the duty fee's if I had not phoned them I would have paid both fee's

Welcome to the madness of Tamiya collecting. Prepare your wallet for a serious invasion of privacy.

Just noticed how many members there are now...this club has grown at a phenomenal rate over the last few years. I wonder how many of the 30,000+ will be buying a BC and the Scorcher if it gets the re-re treatment?

well toy traders (should be called toy retards) are pretty useless and i dont think it will be released over here mate. and also it would be more like $600 if bought from a LHS over here. you can get one delivered from hong kong for under $400 au if u know where to shop

you wont get hit for customs in australia for anything under $1000.

Mine has been relaeased from customs, for sum of £35 so all in thats about £320 for buggy champ kit with life battery and the life charger from Rc champ

£320 = 645 AUD roughly

£320 = 530 USD roughly

This certainly means we pay more shipping than in Aus i think lol!

Not to bad i think, as cheapest i seen in uk will £266 delivered, so 320-266 = £54 that i paid for life charger and battery which i think is pretty good, until i see

them for sale in uk wont know though! and i think i will get mine before any arrive in uk shops to!

So for me it was worth it to order from Rc champ!

Posted

pretty sure Toy Traders will be bringing 58441 in... its been mentioned on the front page of latest "Racing Lines"!!

they've also brought in the Boomerang & Hotshot last 12 mths

whether or not your LHS wants to order & stock it is a different matter but
