When it comes to Sand Scorcher body, EMPI owns the design on both wide eye and bug eyed front.

Another RC company who released a baja style body that was canselled thanks to EMPI, but I think I've seen of them on ebay...

It's not VW, It's EMPI whos got the upper hand here...(if I'm not wrong)

Badboy

There's no definitive evidence that the Scorcher front was actually an EMPI part, just speculation.

If you take a look at the entries in Herby's showroom, the Miller Havens kit is a better match.

Equally well, to turn your own argument around, if Tamiya thought there truly was a market, don't you think they would have given us an MB by now ?

There appears to be no particular pattern to what is & isn't released, perhaps they're just Mr Tamiya's favourites ? or maybe best sellers from the first release ? or maybe the marketing dept are throwing darts at a board covered in pictures of previous cars ? ;)

 Maybe your right, but I doubt it somehow. I think it's just a case of researching what the vintage collectors want, making sure there are no licensing & production issues and then finding the right window of opportunity to release it. I'm sure they would just offload all of the 1980's stuff all at once if they thought they could get away with it but that would do a lot of damage to the brand as they would look rather desperate. Instead they carefully plant the odd re-re here and there in amongst all the latest high tech stuff and it is clearly reaping a reward for them.

I don't think Tamiya will put that much of an effort to make a special battery, make new reinforcement on the suspension arms and redesign the dampers just for the re-issue Rough Rider. So I think at least the Sand Scorcher will be next on the line.

The coffee promotion included eleven cars, all of which have been re-released (Frog, Hornet, Grasshopper, Boomerang, Thundershot, Manta Ray, Hotshot, Top Force)/due for re-release (in the case of the RR) in 1/10th form except for the Astute and the Avante. Interestingly the five SAN-S models were the Grasshopper, Hornet, Frog, RR, and Avante. So perhaps the Astute and Avante are due in the future

The prominent figure of the R/C car boom was the Buggy Champ which was first released in 1979. Tamiya is now proud to re-release the Buggy Champ to celebrate the car's 30thyear anniversary. The chassis has been finely tuned while maintaining the original features of the chassis such as the unique front double trailing arms and rear torsion suspension.R/C fans' hearts will definitely race when they see the nostalgic form and relive the dynamic performance of this machine.

This is a 1/10 R/C assembly kit.

Length: 400mm-Full ball bearings.

ESC and type 540 motor included.

Comes loaded with many top quality parts for improved performance such as:

*A duralumin plate reinforced 2mm thick FRP main frame.

*Die-cast front and rear suspension arms, front axle, and wheel hubs have been newlydesigned for this re-release.

*Clear transparent waterproof case protects the R/C mechanisms.

*Reinforced front uprights.

*Redesigned oil dampers.

Comes in the same original blister pack style packaging.

White plastic easy-to-paint body included.

Can be used with separately available LF1100-6.6V Racing Pack (Item 55105) which isspecifically made for this machine.

From the Tamiya American site, (apologies if all-ready posted)

OK, which of us are NOT getting one??

More than one sounds like the go. And lots of spares and wheel sets. Front wheels/tyres for all the other kits they will fit on too.

Can't wait is an understatment! This is going to be a great year for RC indeed.

But what about the ones not in the coffee cup selection ? Subaru Brat, Fire Dragon, Lunchbox - I think Tamiya just decide one day over a cup of Bovril (or the coffee from all those promotions!!) & a bourbon biscuit which they will release next.. I can see the board room now ;-)

OK, which of us are NOT getting one??

I can't wait!

Unless my finances sort them selves out soon I won't be :-( I'll end up waiting 10 years then paying £1000 for one :-)

I just asked Tamiya USA if they will re-release the scorcher,...here is their reply,..

Dear Tamiya Customer, Unfortunately we at Tamiya America don't have that information, all of Tamiya's decisions regarding development and planning for new releases and"re-releases" are made at Tamiya Inc. in Japan and are posted on their sitefirst. If you would like to see the products that Tamiya is planning to release, please go to: http://www.tamiya.com/english/e-home.htm Tamiya AmericaCustomer Service

Maybe if enough people ask?

I don't think Tamiya will put that much of an effort to make a special battery,
The Tyrrell P34 rerelease had a special battery to fit under the body. The battery they are using in the Buggy Champ is just a short 1100mah version of their 2200mah 6.6v Li-Fe pack so not much effort to make them.

They made a lot of changes to the Hotshot, then didn't include the changes in the Boomerang.

They have to make changes to the suspension, expectations are so much higher these days even from collectors.

OK, which of us are NOT getting one??
I certainly won't be getting one. Already got a runner so not interested in buying the same again, there are better things I would spend that amount of money on. I would probably stretch to a front bumper for the shelfer, I'll stick with the polycarbonate one on the runner.

Can I ask one contentious question ?

What the blue blazes are we supposed to paint the thing with eh ? <_<

Don't use a yard brush, the results are disappointing to say the least.

You're not helping you know B)

But in all seriousness, it's approaching 2 years since the TS range was withdrawn, I know it's not Tamiya's fault, but I would have expected to see it return before now. <_<
