The DF-03MS sells for about $300 US. I bought mine from RC-Mushroom in HK for $230 with shipping. It may be pricey up front, but you will eventually start buying upgrades for it and those will add up well beyond the cost of the DF-03 MS.

Why not the DB01 Durga?

I heard someone was so fed up with a gear weakness on the DF03 that they were going to shelf it. B)

That someone so fed up with the gear weakness in the DF03 may be thinking belt is a NO for off road, lol... B)

If I opt for an EZrun system:

1: Where could I pick up the system in the UK?

2: Would the stock gears of the DF-03 take this setup?

I accept that i would need to swap out the tamiya batt connectors, I'll go for the Dean type as these seem to be the most popular.

thanks again guys

Well, I've picked mine up from one of the Ebay shops in hong kong. So far so good, no issues. You can get the same system locally in UK under the brand name Venom or Ansman, I think.. but cost is up more.

Stock gear, with 9T system should be ok, though replacing the aluminium pinion with a steel equivalent is recommended.

Swapping battery connector is recommended. Doesn't really matter whether u go with deans or other brands, as long as you solder it properly.

I personally would not go for the EZrun 9t system until you are more confident in your driving skills! these things are insanely fast!

Remember the faster you go + the heaver the crash = the more expensive repairs will be! stick with something mild like a sports tuned until you have mastered your model.

Good luck!

Both DF02 and DF03 have steel pinions standard. You will need to change ratio if you fit a different motor however. With the kit motor both will do ~30km/h (18mph) out of the box.

You can't. Hobbywing make them, but Speed passion have the licence to sell them everywhere in the world but China. In the UK it's the Speed Passion Inspire, and it will cost you £99.

Well as for the MS, both modelsport and fusionhobbies have stopped selling it(they were the cheapest in the UK). It was a limited edition because Tamiya must have been making a loss on each one sold. Sure you will be able to find one on ebay or rcmart still has one but it will cost quite a bit more than your budget with shipping. That's a real shame because I really rated this model with all the hop ups... Doesn't mean you won't find one on another site though, I just haven't looked.

Suppose you will have to go for the DF-03/DB-01 but really search around for the cheapest, every penny counts in this credit crunch!! There are lots of good websites out there offering good prices.

Keep it stock to start with then spend more over the next few months, means you don't spend so much in one go.

Good luck with the searching.

I bought my DI a few weeks back and after spending a few careful hours I'm pleased to say its finished and up n' running! :P

The buggy is great, much better than my old old manta ray from 10+ years ago.....
