Differences Between Manta Ray(58087) & Manta Ray(58360)

Recommended Posts

I have recently bought a manta ray off ebay and the seller didn't know if it was a vintage or re-release. Can somebody tell me what are the differences between these cars (apart from the 3 step speed controller). I have copies of both manuals (old & new) and they look very similar. Like with the re-release of the Grasshopper & Hornet there were small changes to the chassis. Any help in this matter would be appreciated.

Look at the rear gearbox. The re-re will have a big (H) in a circle cast into it. It is possible the vintage has had the rear gearbox replaced though.

Had a look at the rear gearbox and found the H with a circle around it. So looks like i got the re-re. Thanks for the info.

Just to add a bit of confusion to this topic. I have a Dirt Thrasher which I bought NIB back in the late 90's which has the large H stamped on the gearbox, so maybe they had a newer revision of the gearbox long before the Manta Ray re-release came out?

All Dirt Thrashers will have the (H) on the gearbox. This same gearcasing is shared with all TA01, TA02 and DF01 chassis. Only the very early TA01 and DF01 didn't have the (H). Manta Ray is a DF01, TA01 is the touring chassis derived from the Manta Ray.
