Back in the day....when I had my Ford Ranger ('81) I had an Acoms Techniplus mk2 (I think). This went with the Ranger (which was well used) when I traded it for the new built Lunchbox 3 or so years ago (from Dave in Bournemouth if he is still on the Forum). The Lunchbox came with a good Acoms Mk5. A great looking radio.

I'm now thinking of building another car (perhaps a Brat, although I'm now in New Zealand and the importer told me yesterday they only received 7 and these have all sold!). Ideally I would like to use another Acoms radio. But which one; for me a lot of it comes down to feel and appearance! Does anyone out there have photos of the different Acoms set ups? How many have there been?

Thanks

Richard

Hi Richard,

I prefer the older "square" looking Acoms sets, of which I have a few. I don't know what version they are up to now, but there must be at least 5 if you had a Mk5.

The newest one I have is the Techniplus-alpha, but I think they have been around for a few years:

I'm in NZ and can help you with a Brat kit if you are still looking for one (chrome chassis too!).

Cheers,

Don.

Don't ask me why but I happen to have some pics of Acoms transmitters already on my laptop.

I too prefer the old square boxy types and have some mk2s and a mk3. The mk3 is my preferred controller, I don't really know why, I just like it.

Here's some random pics of some of my Acoms. A mk2, a horrible looking Techniplus thing, and also the current one which I think is the mk5.

I also have the one that came after the mk3, I think it was the first "Techniplus" and it had a lovely chrome effect front, don't have a picture of that right now though.

Mk IV is the Technidrive, I think. Has servo-reverse on both channels, and can switch the throttle stick between 50-50 and 70-30...

I have one of these at home, I'll take some pictures tonight & add them to my showroom

Here's the other three Acoms I have. Looks like I have mk2, mk3, mk5, techniplus alpha, some horrendous looking plastic techniplus thing, and the current model (mk7?)

I think the mk3 is the best looking.

Look forward to seeing a mk4 as I haven't a clue what it looks like. EDIT - Scratch that, I just found out the fabled mk4 is the Technidrive.
