So after a year and a half of being disappointed with the handling but not wanting to mess up its "character," I've decided that my re-re Hotshot needs better suspension. Forget originality - a car I don't like to drive is a car I don't need, and I'm not ready to give up on it yet.

I have a set of Associated shocks sitting around doing nothing, and I want to do a DIY setup similar to the HP/Supershot 4-shock setup, but for the life of me I can't figure out where the lower ends of the shocks are supposed to go. Are there brackets/bosses that mount to the lower arms? Are there holes they eliminated for the re-release parts? Or do I have to drill holes? I've looked for a good clear photo, but I can't make it out... can anyone help?

there are custom lower (& upper, but those are obvious) pressed metal brackets that come in the HP Susp kit

later-design front Hotshot arms have 3 triangular holes & 1 3mm screwhole <-- bracket fits here

earlier arms have 4 triangular orifices... i don't think you can fit the bracket in these, i tried briefly & didn't fit

It take it you're talking about the rear arms in particular? Both the front and back arms have custom mounting brackets for the bottom ends of the shocks, in the HP/Super Shot shock configuration. You're going to have a challenge replicating these without the original metal parts.

The front arm brackets are L-shaped with a sort-of triangular base, and go inside the lip on the back of the lower arm, and screw in with a screw and washer that comes up from underneath.

For the rear, there are some elaborate metal brackets for the bottom of the shock, that attach to the lower rear arms. There are no extra screws required to hold this bracket in, the end of this bracket is only held in by the lower upright screw pin, and a metal tab hooks over the back of the lower arm to keep it in place.

Check page 10 and 11 of the Super Shot manual for pics.

I was afraid of that... Typical Tamiya. Why make something simple when you can over-think it and make it complicated?

Guess I'll come up with my own design. Or maybe I'll just check around for an old HP suspension kit and do it the easy way.

Thanks for the help!
