Looks like the Lunchbox/Pumpkin class is going to be the most popular class again this year. A big thank you to Ryan for designing the certificates and entry forms again this year. :)

Hi Lee, I'll be there with my trusty Super Shot!! . I still have the SRB i built last year so if we have an SRB class this year i will run it re-re or not! lol. Cheers M8

What are the rules on modifications? e.g. if I run a Lunchbox, does it have to be totally stock or can I run 5 oil shocks and a strut brace? What if I go further with custom double-wishbone front suspension etc..? I'm not hugely competitive, but I have a few models that have been modified and wouldn't want to turn up with something that isn't eligible.

Also do you have a definitive list on what is vintage and what is not? Do you have names or codes of valid models?

This one is local to me, I'm tempted to get a vintage racer just for this event ;)

Thanks for sorting this one out :(

Ok guys it's good to see the questions coming in....................

Lets clear these up then.

After a few chats with a few people. Any kit numbered 130 and below. ;)

So thats the King Cab IN.............. :(

Modifications, all and any Mods allowed, it's just the motor rule must be kept so it's the same for all running. ;)

Will there be any power points in or around the track so i can charge my cells, or do i need to bring a seperate 12v supply battery?.

Cheers,

James.

Hello James,

Unfortunatly there is no power to the pits just power for the computer. It's something I am looking into for next year but I will need the number of drivers to go up before it becomes worth making power available.

So please bring a 12v to charge your battery's.

Lee.

This years Tamiyaclub Off Road Championship at Unity holiday centre, Brean Sands Somerset on Sept 6th is CANCELLED due to lack of interest

I will no longer be organizing any events for Tamiyaclub due to so little responce it is not worth my time or effort.

You all complain when there isn't an event or one folds, well here goes another one and it's all thanks to you the Tamiyaclub members!

Posted

Maybe its because I've just watched an episode of dragons den, but ehh, here goes... :)

I don't want to pick your idea to pieces, but it didn't appear to capture the clubs imagination for a couple of reasons that I can see:

The entry fee per class - £4 is just too much.

The entry fee for each other class and per driver - Again my brother would have wanted to race too, nearly doubling the cost for me.

The location - Somerset is a long drive for me and many other members. Obviously this is an issue that effecting my event too. For driving that distance I'd like to have got a fair bit of track action, but due to the structure of the event, I wouldn't have gotten much use out of my cars.

"Tamiya Only" - Although this is tamiyaclub many members are fond of rc in general!

I can see the thinking behind the event, but maybe there just isn't enough people that wish to race their vintage tamiyas in competition.

What I'm hoping for with our event at the end of next month (apart from sunshine) is a diverse amount of cars and owners. We'll see who shows up on the day, what they bring along, and go from there. If we get a bunch of lunchboxes, we'll race those, a bunch of xc's we'll race those, touring cars... we'll race those.

Just line the cars up on the grid, wave a flag and go... until the batteries run out, or a set number of laps... I'm sure we'll figure it out before we race :)

What matters to me is that everyone has a fun time, meets other like minded members and gets to drive what ever they want on the track at some point. If the races end up competitive then great, if someone screams past with their brushless lunchbox then try and overtake them in the corners :P

I know you are frustrated with this club, but at the end of the day it is what it is - the largest community of tamiya fans. You can't blame everyone.

Hate to say it but i agree, I'd have loved to have come along, i only live in bristol, but i didn't fall in to the strict rules and can't afford to buy a new esc/motor for one race.

Your effort is appreciated though, we do need to try to organise some wider meetings, but the overall emphasis on TC seems to be the fun of collecting and running, not always competitive racing.

perhaps for the future we need to think along the lines of one of the bigger Hobby Shows, perhaps the worlds biggest collection of lunchboxes @ one of the wimgs and wheels shows, a concours day.....

I'm sure the ideal for everyone would be a repeat of Kidderminster, but these things are difficult to pull off (please feel free to snigger, i did)

sorry you had to cancel it,

Well it just shows how out of touch you all are.

Most clubs ask £5 or £6 every week to race and you get usually 1 practice, 4 rounds and then a final. so thats 30mins.

Some even ask £10 (newbury)

I race my Tamiya's at club and regional level.

I stand up for the Tamiya people, Tamiya cars from all the jibes I get because I race a Tamiya............

I love racing my DB01, it is the best car I have raced in a long time!

It is just a shame Tamiya gets the stigma it does but now I can see why ! ! !

Posted

I have come to the conclusion there is probably an army of people on here that dislike me.

I have emailed who ever is at the end of the contact email for this web site asking for a refund and to be removed. (only just paid up for the year this month)

I understand you are collectors

Shame we can't get along

But I race my cars like Tamiya intended......................

Hi Lee,

I'm really sorry to hear it's fallen through after all your hard work on this. I honestly expected a bigger uptake from racers if nothing else!

On the cost issue: Clubs need to make money to stay in business, hence the charges being what they are. It helps that you can go to your local club and not have the issues of finding somewhere to stay.

I suppose a part of the problem is that there is such a difference between a general track day like Kidderminster and a proper race day as most Tamiya enthusiasts are bashers / casual racers (in regard to Tamiya models).

I personally think that the biggest problem though is that people are remembering the Kidderminster meets, which were £4 each for the whole weekend including camping and racing in as many classes as you could supply cars for. On that basis many members will see this as expensive (when camping is taken into account). I personally did 3-4 races per day for the last few meets there, and the missus did 1-2 per day, so it worked out superb value and a good weekend of madness and mayhem.

Then again, Kidderminster is simply not happening, so we all need to move on and look at what can / is being arranged and participate in it.

Maybe if people had responded to your posting about what we wanted to happen on the day (here), then you would have known what people really required / desired from this meet. Seems a predilection on the site to leave all the planning up to others and then not go along / complain when things aren't as they want them.

I have come to the conclusion there is probably an army of people on here that dislike me.

As I previously said, I would have loved to come along next year (with Evan being 3+ it would have been much easier). Don't take a lack of feedback as personal, you'd be surprised at the level of abuse some members have suffered for owning NIB, running vintage models, keeping shelf queens etc. People who dislike you are generally very vocal about it!!! As with every community there are some who will be like that, and others who try to give input and help the community.

If you ever get the chance, see if you can make one of the Cider Bashers Yeovil meets and catch up with the nutters who attend (I travel from South Wales - it's worth the trip). Be nice to put a face to the name, and see what a decent race spec Tamiya is like! We are certainly not "collectors", just enthusiasts who bash the cars and generally meet up for fun and chats.

All the best

Steve,

thank you for your kind words.

to clear it up for all then

Tha £4, then £3 there after for each class entered was to pay for the trophy's nothing else. I hope that is clear enough.

I would like to attend a 'Cider Bashers Yeovil meet'

when is the next one, where (post code for sat nav)

Hi Lee,

Not sure on the next date yet, but I'll drop you a PM as soon as it is planned - will make sure it has full details of how to get there etc...

Next one may be Bristol (which might be a bit of a haul from your end and is only on-road really) but the one after that should be Yeovil again.

All the best

Steve
