What do you think of the repro ones?

I can recommend Beetle Lover's repro bodies. Check his Trades area on TC. There's a couple if Wild Ones in my show room with his bodies on them. They're good and thick and the detail is great.

Obviously the wheels are from a Super Hornet. That's all I could find for now. Hope the orange grows on me...

Also had to take a few mm off the edge of the wheel adapters as the new wheels are reinforced with a 1mm ring round the inside.

If you don't like the orange of the Super Hornet wheels you can paint them white (or other colours). It will chip, scratch and possibly flake with use though. If you do paint them I would recommend using polycarbonate paint as it is more flexible but it won't give a high gloss shine. Give the wheels a going over with some fine steel wool first to help the paint key to the plastic.

Those wheels can be painted with plastic specific paint lik Krylon Fusion or Rustoleum Plasitc paint. I did a set of my black Thunder Shot wheels with white Krylon Fusion and they have not chipped or anything.

Thanks for all of the tips guys!

I have sent Beetle Lover a message. Hope he gets back to me soon.

Will have to go into the craft shop with the wife next time and look for the white Krylon Fusion paint. I can live with the orange wheels for now though as it is going to be a runner.

Put in a Tamiya ESC and a 7.4v lipo and ran it up and down the road. Was a slug to start with but gradually loosened up to a reasonable run for a stock 20 year old motor.

Dropped in a Sport Tuned and the fun was instant. Perfect for flat with the 18t pinion. Not the fastest thing I've driven but enough power to spin the wheels at full throttle.

Tried a Trinity Monster Stock 27 turn motor next. Was a handful to control and the motor did get a little warm. Probably be better suited to the 15t pinoin.

So the Sport Tuned black can stays until its totally finished and I give the car a real workout.

I tell you though, you can't wipe the smile from my face after driving her for the first time :)

Can't wait to be totally finished and get it in some dirt, hopefully with some others here in Brisbane. If you are in the area and want to have a run one day feel free to drop me a message as I would love to go for a run with some other old off roaders.

nice one mate, i live about 100k's from ya. if you are ever up this way, there is a crusher dust/small pebbles park near me that a couple of us run on..

OK bodyset and driver ordered through BeetleLover... Just have to wait for the next batch to be made.

Two things left - Battery cover and decals.

Found battery cover on ebay so guess I'll grab it unless someone here has a spare they want to part with.

Decals... only ones I can find are on the 'bay as well but are printed on white not clear. I'm guessing they will look nasty so haven't bought them. Does anyone here do repro decals? Don't have to be perfect as it's for a runner but would definately like them on clear.

Thanks will keep that in mind. Are they planned days or just whenever you can? :D

The main club site has repro decals for sale in the shop. I have been considering them myself as they are printed on clear.

Yeah there's a seller who has them printed on white vinyl, but it made me a bit squeamish. Plus the feedback for the seller was a bit spotty. Some loved them and some said they were complete garbage. I'd rather go for the clear vinyl. I got the body set sans driver from a seller on ebay because his feedback was excellent, and the feedback for the wild one body set was also excellent. As long as it's not thick that it's hard to cut, It should be fine. I'm thinking of putting some re-enforcement vinyl tape on the corners where the body meets the cage, because this seems to be the major design flaw with the body. It cracked when I had it as a kid, and I expect that with repeated removal it will crack as well.

I'm dying to get my hands on some other minor parts too but keep losing auctions to people who are a little quicker on the draw or who are using bid snipe programs. I need the rubber boots for the rear driveshafts, the 2 metal bars for the top and rear of the cage and a right front suspension arm. I wanted to post a wanted on the sales/trades forum, but can't as I'm not a full member. I've tried contacting the mods about getting a membership but never get a response. I've had no luck with this. I'm not in the biggest rush to finish this car, but would like to see it done by the end of the summer. Anyone have any ideas on getting a membership or who might have the parts I need

Cool! thanks, the shop decals look the goods. Will grab a set when my body set arrives.

lucasan - the metal bars for the cage are just 6mm outer diameter threaded rod. Should be able to get from hobby or hardware shop easily enough.

- axle boots are the same as in a re-re frog kit. Again, should be plentiful.

- the suspension arm will be the hard part, no ideas there sorry ;)

I'll definitely look into the boots for the frog. The thing with the bars for the cage is that I can't figure out how the top one is fastened. It's a very weird setup and the guy who had the car before me did a number on it and might have ruined it. I'm worried that if I do end up taking it off (stress on the word if) that I'll ruin the cage. I'm in the process of going through an old manual I got on line to see about the construction of the cage. The suspension uprights are available on ebay from a british seller. One will cost me $15 with shipping. It's crazy to see how far shocks have come since this time. The build on those things works, but jeez, too many parts. Let me know how those decals work for you when you get them.

There was a seller on ebay who wanted almost $200 for a lot of Wild One parts that included arms, a cage and some odds and ends. Seemed a lot for only one or two things I might need. Now that I've inspected the bumper, might get one of those too. Also, there's a small diamond shaped fiber glass spacer on the bottom of my chassis on the front. Isn't in the manual. Will take pics tomorrow. Kind of wishing I hadn't dismantaled this thing at all until I had the manual.

Iam sure if you contact Twinset Or Terry or one of the other Moderators they will be more than happy to point you in the right direction regarding membership they are very helpfull and approachable.

Its well worth paying the membership fees it opens many doors for you .You wont have to hunt online for manuals for instance as TC has a vast assortment of manuals available for subscribed members just one of the many perks available .

Try and contact the Mods again you wont regret becoming a member

As for parts you can always try Fast Attack Vehicle parts ,Although they are probably just as hard to source but its another option

Good luck in your quest for parts you will find what you need just be patient .Having said that though I know when I want something ,Its like I want it yesterday .

boxart W1 is one of those shells where its a lot easier just handpainting :)

Sending you a PM Willy

For sure. Will be spraying the shell but the driver body and head will have to be done by hand. Just grabbed some matt flesh paint from my LHS for the face. Going to try and do a box art.

Mark, I know we've been been communicating back and forth about about our almost parallel WO projects. (Mark was so kind to unload a couple of parts I needed and he had as spares. Thanks again Mark). I could start another thread, but why clutter? I'm adding my driver body pic to the mix. I know it needs work, and the photo shows more flaws and hides others. Some of the members here are amazing with the brush. I remember that when I built the WO as a kid I actually skipped the driver figure because I didn't have the paints and just wanted to run my newly built buggy. I improvised to secure the servo battery pack with some electrical tape. I always thought I'd get around to painting the driver when I could get an adult to drive me to the LHS for some paints. Never happened. Fast forward to today when I have a WO project that that I picked up for a decent price in the spring. I've been working on this little by little all summer. I chose my own paint scheme based on what I had for paints and even made a trip to get the color for the gloves/hands. I wanted something that was close to the decals on the helmet. Most of what I painted was on the outside because I didn't think that painting a driver figure and having it be glossy was all that realistic. I would love to do a perfect driver for this car, as it is sort of a tribute to the car I had as a kid. I might break down and buy beetlelover's guide on how to paint driver heads, but for now, I'm just winging it. Here's my 90% completed driver:

Finally an update....

Painted the body, driver and head ready for decals. Going for the box art look.

Had to give Ray an eyebrow stud to match mine :)

Good to see you are nearlly finished too Lucas. Glad the parts were of use to you. You painting your driver made me pull my finger out and finally finish my head.

Just the decals now and I will be posting some action shots very soon hopefully!!

Decals done

I ended up buying some cheapies of the bay to try for my first attempt. Sizes were spot on, colours were a little off but I'm happy for what I paid..

Have taken some photos next to my original body for comparison.

I've noticed the decals don't like sticking to the curves of the helmet so will add some CA glue to fix that problem. I was also thinking of spraying a clear coating over the decals to try and make them last a little longer as she's going to be a runner.

Has anyone tried a protective clear coat with any success?

Cool thread, my WO project arrived yesterday. Will be getting in touch with Beetlelover for a new body and driver I think. Happy with the TC repro decals for my MB so I'll get a set of those. Got a set of Frog rere UJ's knocking around from my MB project (but might put them in my Blackfoot, not sure) so lots to be getting on with. I'll try and add some pics as I go along on mine over the next few weeks.

Just get them orange wheels sprayed white to finish it off!!
