I quite fancy getting one of these but there doesn't seem to be much enthusiasm for the model and I can't help thinking why? It's basically a Grasshopper/Hornet with a slightly different shell but cheaper! What's wrong with it? it seems a beeter idea than buying a Grasshopper and sticking a 540 motor in it.

You answered your own question. My fee for this post is $10 :o

i have a rising fighter, and think it's great. it's a lot like a grasshopper 2. if i were to compare it to my original hopper i would have to say that the rising fighter is a better car. it drives better, doesn't roll over as often, it will wheely with just a silver can motor, takes a lot of abuse on the ramp, you can get one from time tunnel for just £51 and best of all the battery cover doesn't fly off every 2 minutes.

the down side however is that it is as ugly as sin. however the body can soon be changed, i'm thinking about a stadium truck shell for mine

I think that Tamiya killed any chance of success for the Rising Fighter by having the Frog, Grasshopper and Hornet (and maybe even the Brat and Lunchbox) re-released. They are all RWD rigid axled offroad cars, they were bought in huge masses by youngsters as a beginner's car, people who remembered it from back then and bought it or even came back into the hobby with one. So many people already have such a car, and why would you buy a new Rising Fighter if you already have a buggy which is roughly the same? Many people wouldn't.

Some of these re-re's (according to TamiyaUSA) come with bearings, the Rising Fighter doesn't as far as I know - no Oil Shocks (although the suspension of the other cars isn't that quite high tech either :o), and as mentioned before, it does not look nice (it should have had a lower and smaller spoiler or not one at all, and why o why those wheels?) - so the RIsing Fighter may be a very nice car, but released on the wrong time. Maybe sales will increase once the re-re's are discontinued (if the Rising Fighter isn't discontinued first).

besides that, i think most people that aren't going for the nostalgia would rather have a Super Fighter G. That's a DT02 chassis, same as the Sand Viper and that just drives so much better. And that also only costs 50 euro's... (or even 45 if your lucky with store discounts)

I didn't think about that, but you're very right about that. Someone who won't go for the Nostalgia, would go for the Handling, and then the DT02 is probably the best value for your money :o

PS: I know some people don't like the DT02's handling, but the chassis design has so much more potential and works better for performance driving than a DT01, Rising Fighter or those re-re cars I mentioned :)

Get some grippy tyres on the front of the DT02 and it handles quite well. It has no bumpsteer, good steering and suspension geometry, a very sturdy 0.8mm toothed gearbox and is well balanced with it's layout.

It's only real drawback is the lack of gearing options, a 17T or 19T pinion. Basicly 'low and high' for a 27T Dirt Tuned motor. Almost too slow for how good it handles.

DT02 chassis would go well under the likes of Blitzer Beetle/Stadium Blitzer range of bodies too. Same dimensions and almost the same layout, just with better suspension and no bumpsteer. You could almost call them the update to this chassis.

Fighter Buggy is the DT01 chassis, but as stated like an update to the Grasshopper/Hornet chassis.

Rising Fighter, MadFighter and Superfighter are indeed DT01, the SuperFighter G however is a DT02, but with blue shocks instead of the black ones.

And let's not forget that those are friction shocks, not oil shocks (like the other DT02's) and it has a double upper arms on the front and rear (plastic, and not adjustable).

I took possession of my first DT01 yesterday. WOW! Someone was on some really good drugs at Tamiya the day they designed this one and approved it for sale....

Only have one piece advice for anyone considering this chassis... DON'T DO IT!!! Buy the older Hornet/Grasshopper chassis! Far better chassis. Or spend that few $ extra and get the DT02.

I've already done many modification just to make it driveable. Moved the steering servo, changed the servo horn for a longer one so there is more throw. Changed the steering links to remove the massive bumpsteer. Moved the steering boss. Changed the dampers for oils, and fitted an ESC and threw the MSC where it deserves to be. There's more mods planned for the front suspension when the parts get here (Double wishbone).

DF03 dampers fit it when assembled differently. Long lower eyes on the front and short lower eyes on the rear gets some decent ride height for offroad and much better damping and actually gives it some suspension travel. They get the front wheels set to the right camber at rest too. Complete lack of gearing options so I've left it on a 27 turn motor and used a 7.4v Li-Po battery instead to give it some speed and a bit more punch so it's not a complete bore to drive. Sad, sad chassis this one.
