Because Jason was on holiday (he is back now)

For the record on numbers, I have checked 4 of my kits so far and have the following numbers:

108

109

121

912

Keep well,

Paul.

PS : I suppose as a limited production there is just one production run, with all the numbers so low so far, I suspect maybe this will be much less than 10,000 units, although the numbering actually allows for 99,999 units maximum.

PPS : There was a Porsche 912, so I guess this kit will remain my favourite for now!

PPPS : Shame it couldn't have been 911...

Has anybody worked out which Numbers have the bag and which don't - I had thought the first few hundred would all be with a bag and anything else over a certain number wouldn't have one. Though on reading peoples posts/showrooms I can't seem to work out any logical pattern. By knowing which numbers include the bag, you'll know when buying one if it should come with it or not (or if someone has cheekily removed it).

It's interesting the subtle differences between the original and the re-release for the body

For those who are interested, I've posted the manual for the body here.

Also, I've tried to put the two manuals side by side for easier comparison - you can see the differences in the door mounting mechanism and the window frames.

One thing I can't verify is if the internal markings on the body are different from the original as I don't have the original :)

It was good to see that Jason had returned and listed 4 more kits in the wee hours of the morning. Sadly I missed a chance at another and they all sold in 1 hour..............

It looks like the kit has reached US shores.

Just ordered mine and it is on its way.

I wonder if the bag will be included and what the serial numbers will be.

If no bag I will accuse tamiyausa of false advertising......

I'm interested too. If you go to Tamiya USA, The kit photos still show a bag. My pre-order should be here soon and as soon as we open the boxes we'll know.

Here is an interesting post left on the photos thread. Looks like kits are getting scarce in Japan already.

Bad news, "if you snooze you lose" ! nless there are stock piles at cretain places (Jason's Store for example) I think you are out of luck for the Japanese Version:

Dear Mr.G******

Hello, sir.I'm doing well, thank you for askng.

Hope you are doing well too.

Unfortunately the Tamiya 84057 Black Porsche kit got sold out already and it is limited edition item,so I don't think we can get it again.

I'm sorry we can't help you,sir.

If you have any question, please let me know, sir.

Thank you.

Best regards,

RC Adviser Champ

Hirotaka Suganuma

Get 'em while you can !

Yup Jason seems to be releasing them in dribs and drabs (Japanese version) 370224958038 .

I noticed Jason had some the other day when I went back to buy one they were gone I thought I had missed the boat .

I just brought one he has 3 left atm, I hesitated a bit before I pressed the BIN button but I figured they had already gone up and I didnt want to miss out again.

There are a couple on the bay auction only and not Japanese versions so I guess it a case of grab them while you can before its too late

Well I said on these hallowed forums I would not build the Porsche, but having seen Twistys runner recently on the main site and also realising the car is basically a run of the mill GT-01 I thought why not.

That said I will take great car of the things that are unique, namely:

The bag (Japanese version)

The box

The hard plastic body shell

The instructions

The number plaque

The plastic parts bags (Just in case I can only get an RTR in future)

The idea being if I feel pangs of guilt in a year or so I can buy any GT-01 chassis and re-create the NIB feel :-)

So I have been busy ordering a few bits - and again I blame Twisty for all this:

1) Bling = Aluminium blue stuff from both 3racing and Tamiya, I bought as much as I could find but I am sure there will be some more bits

2) Horse Power = Tekin rage 8kv brushless micro motor and ESC.

Now I am a slow builder at best, but once I am done I will post pics on the main site and demote my NIB to runner :)

I plan to go race test it around a local outdoor track once its built and hopefully tame the massive horsepower and make it driveable. I assume the kit tyres will be poor performers so anyone know a good source of tyres for the GT-01s in the UK? I think I will need something around the 32 grade rubber, hopefully a sorex or similar tyre, I think I will be generating quite a lot of heat :D Ideas would be appreciated.

I don`t mind taking the blame B) just a note to anyone building a GT 01,you really really need some oil filled dampers or the cars bounce horribly.

There are several options here, the best value being either the 3 racing alloy ones or the Tamiya option plastic ones,if you have deep pockets, the Tamiya airation dampers are loverly, just a bit steep.

Paul, with regards tyres, see if you can get a pair of the Tamiya soft option tyres for the rear, they work really well and even putting lots of power through them, they last really well.

Have fun with the build and i hope you are impressed with the running too.

Thanx for the tyre advice and as for the blame I forgot I snuck that word in there :)

They always look better built than boxed - they kind of call to me when they are boxed. Dont get me wrong this is not a build vs collect I thought I would keep it but hey they just look better built. I could buy anouther gt-01 but I've already invested far to much and so will build the common parts leaving the rare collectable stuff alone.

BTW looking more closely at my parts trees, some say

Tamiya

Made in Japan 1976

Example the W tree.

I am guessing these are the rare bits.

I think - with a shudder - I may have worked this out. All the parts or at least 90% are date stamped. I am assuming but would need a real black porsche owner to validate that the parts marked 1978 are the real genuine parts from 1978. I could be wrong, very wrong, but if I am right then taking my assumptions further back in the day I doubt very much they had 100,000 of everythging left - 100,000 being the estimated re-re run. So could it, would it be possible (us SRB owners know it happened with them MK1, MK2 and finally SC parts in SS and RR) that some people have more 100% genuine parts than others. Also could people with almost complete NIB Black Porsche owners use these New Old stock to complete their NIBs?

Not sure where to take this as it would be time consuming to go through all the parts with each owner, however its quite exciting to think on for now!

Instead of using up old stock from the original black Porsche, they probably just used an old mould. As doubt Tamiya would include 30 year old parts in their modern kits, too risky with regards quality control.

I don't have a black Porsche kit, so am only guessing.

I did read that after a certain year they started putting a Clock dial on moulded plastic parts so the year and month date could be checked. My Black Porsche has not arrived yet so cant check but if this is present then it will be from new moulds

this was read somwhere on this forum a few weeks ago.

No this is not consistent. Its strange the way the various parts are marked though

1979

2006

2009

Looking more closley it seems to be a copyright mark, which I assume stems from the moment it was first copyrighted? Looking around the internet I found this:

<< you should insert the year in which your work was created (e.g. -- if you are copyrighting a collection of short stories, make the date, the year that the last piece in the collection was created).>>

Not sure what to make of that, could be read one of two ways

1) The date SHOWS the last time the product WAS created i.e. its new and was last created in 1979

2) The date IS the product created date i.e new old stock from 1979

Very confused would love to hear from a copyrighter?

Copyrights are valid for 26 years, and can be renewed once ( 26 + 26 = 52 years ). That means that Tamiya holds the intellectual property rights for up to 52 years. In the case of the Black Porsche, the body moldings were originally copyrighted under the static display 934 in 1976. Some RC specific parts were created in 1977. The static kit was re-issued in 2006 and new parts were created for the display body (Black Porsche) in 2009. After 52 years the copyrights terminate and the propert becomes "Public Domain" at which time anyone can legally copy the property without paying royalties. The way to extend the copyright is to make subtle changes to the original property, and file new copyrights. Tamiya made a new body mount for display of the body on the TTG GT-01 chassis, and that parts tree carries the 2009 copyright. Hope that clears up all the dates????? Remember; Life Is Good...........

Looks very cool indeed. Not the new ones have Tamiya written on the side walls. I am sure there will be some alternatives available to this, but right now stock kit is Tamiya :)

I wasn't going to get one of these Black Porsches. Then I read through this thread - I got curious so I called up my buddy in his shop and ended up saying "okay I'll take it". Well, this wasn't really the plan..... now I'm out of dough for the Buggy Champ! Oh my, one of those "why did I ever put myself in this situation" kinda thing. Sigh..

This will be my first 1/12 TT car. Going to pick it up later. It better be # 00934! If I don't save enough come the release of the buggy champ, it will be sold.
