There is a tube of green filler thats for modelling... I've seen it at Snetterton's model shop, but I forget the name of it...

I used the white version of this stuff (the white's apparently finer)

Cool idea of a "lunch pick up" ;). Looks good.

Am I the only one who think the third shock mount is not doing anything?

One of my boxes had it when I got it, but when I had to get a new gearbox I didn't bother to fit the third shock and I haven't notice any difference.

A driver is always nice.

Mate, look at my showroom, even if a mod is pointless, it doesn't necessarily mean it's bad

A few people swear by the third shock, and it's only £5 worth of extra hardware

Not sure about the driver, that'll mean I gotta tidy up the interior - was thinking of tinting the screen more actually ;)

Ha ha. Well mods give you an excuse to spend time with your models :)

I just wonder cause I only heard good things about the third shock mod.

If you take out to much of the gearbox to fit the third shock you will en up with dirt in the gears. I think that's what happened to mine. The gear broke down twice in two weeks. So I ordered a new gear box and problem was solved.

tinted windows Will look cool, your going for box art yellow right? :)

I*m really looking forward to see this finalized.

The area where the material wants removing forms a relatively sealed 'pocket' so unless you go real mad with the saw, it shouldn't contaminate the gearbox too much?

In all honesty, it probably won't get used all that much (refer to showroom again :) )

Doubt very much it'll be yellow though, I'm seeing orange at the minute...

I was following this thread but got a bit lost :)

Started on the body too, anyone know a good prep thread?

Did you mean a body prep thread on the forums? :)

Right, been to Halfords today

Filler's a little 'gappy' - is that down to the filler (Squadron) or the prep?

Just rubbed it down until it felt dead smooth, but the primer does show some 'pitting'

Do I need finer paper or finer filler?

Halfords for paint?

How did you cut the body?

And did you make those extra marks(cargo hold doors, and anything else I missed, maybe rear lights?) on the shell?( It must be 25 years since I had a lunchbox)

Sorry for all the questions, still learning :D

Halfords primer (that's primer in those pics )

Cut as in hack it up? Razor saw from the roof down to the sides, then score deep/snap with a scalpel

All the extra marks are door lines mainly, that's what I'm trying to get rid of. Original van shell has two rear doors and a double side door.

Because of the chop, these lines need filling.

Also some grooves on the roof need filling, which you can see here;

Cool thanks for getting back so quick :)

My apologies, I thought you had added a lower cargo doorpost-23151-1249250663.gif

I should know about the doors on the lunchbox, I see enough of them on herepost-23151-1249250663.gif,

It has been a long weekend with very little sleep,

I think the Halfords thing threw me :)

And I would have liked a pic of Dr Frankenstein with weapon in hand :D

Think you got the wrong site for that :)

The primer is 'filler primer' - no idea why it's not grey though

E2A: only because I know nothing about styrene, how did you mould it?

Did you mould it?, it comes as a flat sheet?,...right?

There's no moulding there - the rear of the cab is actually the back end of the van moved forward.

Here you can see what would've been the back door shut lines;

post-1185-1249251505_thumb.jpg

The top of the rooves were lined up and glued in place, then the pick up 'cover' was just a couple of sheets of modelling 'plasticard' laminated thick enough to fill the gap - the roof line slopes ever so slightly front to back, so by the time the roof lines were level at the top, there was a big gap at the bottom.

Thanks for explaining, I suppose you thought it was obvious. :)

E2A; Or you did explain earlier and I missed it.

I had a similar problem when filling the blower hole on a Clod body - I too used Squadron Green (stinky stuff!) and filled and sanded umpteen times but when I primered it you could still see the odd hole which was most frustrating - its still like it now :)

Have you tried Milliput ?

It's 2 part epoxy, not solvent based like Squadron.

The other thing I've found with Squadron is to wet it a little when applying, it tends to get rid of some of the bubble etc & seem to go on smoother.

Same thing works for Milliput.

Milliput is available in several grades, white superfine gives a decent surface finish.

@TWINSET, When you said you went to Halfords I thought you had used 1/1 scale body filler (lack of sleep), anyways I have used 1/1 scale body filler on R/C models in the past with good success, might be worth a try? :) , I used it on a lexan beetle body which was strengthend with firbreglass matt and resin on the inside. It was on my Pumpkin. I didn't know you could get filler for models.

Still learning :)

Very nice bodyshell mod :) Was thinking of doing something like that a while back but never got round to it. Cannot wait to see the finished project. Are you going to mount it on a standard lunchbox ?

Cheers chap

Got some sanding tips from Biggus earleir today, so will try that first...

It's 1:1 primer, but they call it 'Filler Primer'

Before that, I'd filled all the big gaps with Squadron Model Filler Putty

Relatively standard, apart from the shock mods and bracing detailed above

I been thinking of this pic for a while now. I'm getting more and more curious about it.

This is for strengthening the chassi? Where are you gonna put the Shocks?

The shocks will go in that tin bracket at the top (as normal), with the brace outside the bracket.

Probably

Shocks have just arrived today, so will have a play - pics tomorrow I reckon

Parma made a wheelie bar for the MP/LB back when these trucks were new (er). I found mine on eBay, NIP. You could easily make your own. It helps TREMENDOUSLY when doing wheelies.

CRP also made HD uprights, and are often on eBay as well.

Blackfoot wheels also fit these trucks.
