I'm having a little problem with the radio box. I can't seem to fit the ESC's motor wires through the little rubber grommet. I was originally going to solder longer wires to my motor but opted to keep the standard wires on everything. Is there some special technique to getting those wires through or should I just cut the thing?

Can anyone share some close up pics of the front of the ranger shell? I specifically need pics of the front sides without the grill attached, perhaps with a ruler next to it and under it to act as a guide for me. Thanks to any who can help me out with pics on this one.

Hope these help ;-

Cheers,

Alistair G.

what ratio did you use to mix the caustic soda pellets with water?

You will find that you can achieve about a 30 per cent mix of NaOH (Caustic Soda, Common Lye, Sodium Hydroxide) with tap water, any more and the solution becomes saturated and no more will dissolve into it, so that is the maximum strength possible.

I have tried this strength with an original 1979 Sand Scorcher shell and it did not harm the shell at all, the shell softens very slightly and goes a touch yellow, but hardens back to "glass hard" when you stop using it and wash it off.

I get the stuff in 500g tubs from Wilkinsons for 1.50 GBP approx. The reaction is strongly exothermic, so the water becomes very hot unless you add it rather slowly to the water. Never add water to powder, only instead add powder to water.

WEAR EYE PROTECTION. It eats skin as well. Usual disclaimer.

I have just been reading this with interest as I have an old Scorcher shell which I will be hopefully restoring soon after I have finished building my 2010 Re Re Scorcher. Anyway with the caustic soda process what is the best way of disposing of the used soda? As I guess it's pretty nasty stuff!!

That's easy. I dilute it and put it down the drain outside the kitchen or down the downstairs toilet. It's sold for use as a drain unblocker, after all :) A lot easier to get rid of than brake fluid which is toxic to the environment so you can't put brake fluid down drains or on the land, apparently.

BTW watch out for the fumes from Caustic Soda at high strengths, it's not good for you, and makes you choke, so use in a ventilated place.

I urgently need some help!

Has anyone got an Awesome Alloys Super Champ butterfly chassis plate to hand? I need the measurements for the wings as I'm trying to get one made up. My Super Champ is in pieces and my body is badly broken (i.e. incomplete) so all the measurements I've tried to take so far are probably well off. Or if someone has a pristine Super Champ shell that can be measured up for a butterfly chassis that'd be just as good. I've been trying for the last few minutes to get what's left of my shell to hold in position so that I could try to measure it but it's a bit warped aswell so it's not going too well.

Not sure if there was a specific SC version vs RR/SC one. This one is fitted to a RR. HTH
