wolfdogstinkus 1612 Posted July 27, 2009 Will be sat on the shelf, maybe some slow driving, If they had re-re'd the SS, I would have had that in a flash but I am a VW person so I think the M*O4L(*Is that an "Oletter" or a "0number") is a calling for my Birthday. Questions,. Are the wheel-arches pre-cut on the shell? What's the kit like to build?, I tried looking for the manual but had no joy!. I saw some of the work that KINGCOBRA has produced, there's no way mine will be of that quality , unless we have a resident shell painter? So should I buy the kit?, well I shall buy it and the Mrs can owe me Anything to look out for? I will buy bearings in case I do decide to run it. Any feedback much appreciated, thanks The dog
kaiser 8 Posted July 27, 2009 i have the same questions. as a vw lover i see no reason not to get one, other than 10 or so kits i want more. lol

markbt73 4570 Posted July 27, 2009 It's M-zero-four. I have the Alfa version; it's a very simple kit to build, and a lot of the touring car hop-ups will fit it. Mine has a TA03 ball diff, lightweight kingpins, and HPI alloy shocks. It's easy to drive, but tends to understeer with the stock tires. It's quite quick with the 540, and a rocket with a 27 turn racing motor (I have a Trinity P2K2 Pro in mine). The Alfa body didn't come with pre-cut arches, but the mount and antenna holes were pre-drilled. I've never seen the VW body in person, but the M-chassis shells in general tend to be some of Tamiya's finest work. And if you're looking for a manual, Tamiya's site has the Eunos (Miata) manual posted. The Beetle should be 90% the same; the exceptions being a plastic spacer to lengthen the wheelbase, different hub carriers (to fit included 5x10mm bearings) and the body (of course). Any feedback much appreciated, thanks The dog Same here, I have a couple of the Alpha with the same chassis but I did have a good look at an open kit a few weeks ago at the LHS, only the body post and antenna holes are pre-cut, actually I don't think Tamiya has ever released a body fully pre-cut (unpainted that is) I really enjoyed building all my M-chassis cars, something different and smooth easy builds. Definately go for bearings, there aren't many needed and will save a tear-down later. Only mild dissapointment was it comes with friction dampers, it couldn't have been that much more to include CVA oil dampers in the kit.... You can find the manual download here for the VW: http://www.tamiya.com/japan/download/rcmanual/m04l_2.pdf The body is just gorgeous, especially with the chrome bumpers etc, really looks something special when all finished, it would be awesome if the did a re-re with LED lights The rear wheel drive M-chassis is a blast to drive when you get used to the understeer and lose rear end, the S-Grip tires up front seemed to help, just smiles all the time when running
Geronimooo 0 Posted August 3, 2009 The body (and chassis) are great! You will need scissors though, the body isn't pre-cut.
RedFrits 0 Posted August 5, 2009 Questions,.Are the wheel-arches pre-cut on the shell? What's the kit like to build?, I tried looking for the manual but had no joy!. Answers: - No, the wheel arches are not precut, you will need scissors to cut them. Here is a little hint to help you. If you wrap sandpaper around that carton from a toilet roll, you can get a nice smooth finish. - The kit is easy to built, if you just use it for slow driving I wouldn't bother to get hopups. If you want them, here you go: http://www.stellamodels.net/catalog/default.php?cPath=75_115 Look at mine, I painted also the wheels to get a more accurate look: http://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.a...816&id=5798
lee1980 71 Posted August 5, 2009 I am in process of building an m03 r chassis which is a chassis only kit with a few options included, and i have and xb monte carlo mini cooper shell to put on it, and being fwd are so much fun its unreal!
TA-Mark 194 Posted August 5, 2009 I put the S-Grip tyres on the front when I first built it and put the harder compound on the rear. I've experienced no understeer with it like this. Only thing that disappointed me was how slow it was out of the box. Could be because I'm used to much faster kits. Dropping in a MM 4600Kv on 9.9v 3s A123 soon solved the 'slow' problem. These chassis share many parts in common with TL01 and M03 and there are heaps of upgrades available. I still have not painted my Beetle body. I fitted a Lunchbox body (still working on it) and a Kamtec ABS Escort Mk1 to the shortened chassis (202mm). One of my favourite cars to drive.

pagedm_f350 3 Posted August 6, 2009 Birthday on Saturday, we will see how drunk I get and what I might buy then, Hahahaha, now that is dangerous Friends don't let friends shop on-line when drinking
HunterZero 73 Posted August 6, 2009 Remember, don't drink and eBay. Friends don't let friends surf internet shops while off their face. That said.... Do it! I have one of these on display on a shelf at home painted light blue (wish I could find a bahama blue spray, as the bug I had was that colour)... And it always seems to get positive comments from visitors. They're even more amazed when they see it's radio controlled. - J
berman 5271 Posted August 6, 2009 Would be even funnier for your friends to watch you go it your LHS and purchase one, assuming you can still stand Greatly detailed kit for not much money, do it. Although how nice of you to ask TC first!
