Hello All !

Being a very new member, i would like some help from all you experts out there.

I recently obtained a Blazing Blazer which looked to have been rune maybe once or twice in the 80's. I charged the battery and decided to give it a go.

Im having problems getting the thing to move ! sometimes it does not go into drive and only gives a wirring noise, always comes out of 4x4 mode and steering seems to move only a little and cant get full lock on it. I would appreciate some help, or anyone living in the NE of England can maybe take a look at it for me. It looks nearly new and would appreciate som help please.

Hmnn follow the manual available on the mainsite for how to set up the gearbox, this should fix the issue. The steering is quite an art you need to very carefully set the front track to almost or as near as you can see exactly straight-wheels paralell, then check the steering servo is fitted to the most outer hole on the servo saver and likewise under the radio box fitted to the outer hole on the bottom of thre servo saver. Thats all you can do and it should be ok, don't expect it to steer with all the wheels on the ground and not moving either hold the front wheels off the ground or run the truck.

When I get home I will let you know what steering circle I get. Note if the front hubs are locked - permanent 4wd - you won't get much steering, simply unlock them so they free wheel.

Good Luck.

Welcome to the club, and that is one clean looking Blazer.

The going in and out of drive and noise you experienced might be because the shifting servo isn't pushing or pulling the shifting rod all the way. If the shifting rod gets "stuck" inbetween gears, it might cause problems like you just described.

disconnect the rod from the servo, turn all your radio gear on and allow the servo to go into "netural." Connect the shifting rod to the servo once its in its netural position.

Yes thats not good, I should have time to run mine today and will let you know my turning circle. I do remember having the same type of issue with steering - I am sure if you search hard enough you would find my post. Its not great but certainly its not unuseable either.

Can you post a video clip of the noise/movements of your Blazing Blazer? This might help us help you further.

the 3spd gearbox requires frequent/regular lubrication - needs oil thru those rubber bung'd holes ;)

if you don't know the provenance of your gearbox, its usually worth giving it a flushout using motor spray or WD40 also via those holes... usually a heap of metal filings & gunky old oil will wash out

if you have no idea what's inside the gearbox then DON'T go dismantling it. Definitely don't, not without the exploded diagram in front of you... even then, its highly likely the average person won't be able to reassemble it properly. Plus there's no user-replaceble parts nor are any spareparts available, so its not much point opening that gearbox anyway.

I really have no idea how to do that. I going to strip it down this weekend and see whats going on. Just got the manual ( Thanks Tamiyaclub) so fingers crossed and hope its nothing serious.

Thats a last resort, and hope it wont come to that.

Hi Mark , have you checked the adjustment of the spring loaded shift rod link assembly on the rear of the gearbox? .This needs to be set at a measured position in relation to the gearbox casing (see manual for measurements) this is critical to allow the shifting to position itself in the right place to engage the gears properly ,if it is not set properly it will not engage gears and you will hear the whirring / grinding .Also check that the UJ's grub screws are tight on the prop shafts ,this can also lead to drive failure (easy fix) this happened to me with my Blazer ;)

Great ! Im going to try and have a go at that now since i have the manual with correct settings. I just assumed it would work fine as it looks new, probably the reason it was never run as the previous owner may not have set it up correctly.

I tell you honestly, when I bought it even though it looked new, the roof was missing off it in the pictures, how happy was i to find it complete with bits in the bottom of the Beattties bag.

Thanks for your help here guy's !!!

Much appreciated

Very clean Blazer. :)

Did you get your running issues sorted out? At this point, anything will help, really. Even a few enlarged pictures of your servo setup, etc.

Hi Mark ,from looking at the pic of the servo setup the servo horns should be parrallel to the servo savers that pass through the radio box (step 21 in manual) so the servos might not have been in neutral postion when the rods were set up try resetting them ( in neutral ) as per the manual and then adjusting the push/ pull rods to suit .Once this is done check the gear selector link setting as I said before in the thread and reset it to the newly adjusted servo settings .It all sounds tedious but these steps need to be followed to make sure the correct set up is achieved , also this resets the steering and speedo setups .For the steering problem , check the length of the long push/ pull rod to the steering arm to make sure its the set to right length ( step 7 ) also covers the tie rod and steering rod lengths

Sorry for the late reply, I was out of town for a few days.

Member Kev The Rev pertty much got it right on. May I ask what you plan to do with this beauty? If you plan to run it, I would HIGHLY suggest you get an ESC.

This will give you trouble free running as well as any protection from electrical fire. Remember to keep the original MSC though!

I don't have a manual in front of me, but if you decide to reset the servo arms, make sure the servos are in netural position. This will avoid any confusion.
