Grasshopper Chassis Made In Korea?

Recommended Posts

i bought what i thought was a vintage g-hopper roller 5 years back.

i have recently started to gather parts for the crp fx10 front end upgrade.

while i had it apart i saw that the chassis was stamped "made in korea".

did tamiya source any parts from korea? (i don't think they did)

i think what i have may be a "rockbuster" aka grasshopper clone.

the sides of the chassis also have ridges or serration going down the length of the chassis and on the nose section.

do any of you know a way to confirm this?

Simplest way is of course to search the showrooms.

World Engines Rock Buster

that later became the Academy Road Runner (defintely made in korea)

thanks terry.

it's too bad mine didn't come with a body, but it had the chrome wheels like the first link you posted.

i have yet to see an example of the "ribbed chassis" like mine though. maybe it's a panda.

i'll have to take some pics tonight.

i have one of the 'ribbed' chassis that came with a parts lot, i do think the plastic feels a bit more flexible, and in all honesty looks like it has stood up to the tests of time better than a simularly old genuine hornet chassis

i agree mighty flex. this chassis has taken hits that would have left my real hornet in peices.

infact it has become my favorite runner. i have outfitted it with hornet rear shocks, a parma hornet body and in the next couple of weeks oil shocks and crp front end kit.

hornets/hoppers were always my personal favorite "bashers".

i'm now thinking it's an acadamy roadrunner. i have emailed a member ot tc who has one to check the chassis for the ribs/ridges.

either way i'm not upset that i got sold a clone, it runs great and i have a ball with it.

i'm seriously considering starting to collect all variations of the g-hoppers/hornets and their clones.

How about an "Academy Galaxy Buggy"?
