kaiser 8 Posted July 31, 2009 i bought what i thought was a vintage g-hopper roller 5 years back. i have recently started to gather parts for the crp fx10 front end upgrade. while i had it apart i saw that the chassis was stamped "made in korea". did tamiya source any parts from korea? (i don't think they did) i think what i have may be a "rockbuster" aka grasshopper clone. the sides of the chassis also have ridges or serration going down the length of the chassis and on the nose section. do any of you know a way to confirm this? terry.sc 16 Posted July 31, 2009 Simplest way is of course to search the showrooms. World Engines Rock Buster http://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.a...48&id=17211 that later became the Academy Road Runner (defintely made in korea) http://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.a...408&id=1301 shots of the chassis http://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.a...5839&id=
kaiser 8 Posted July 31, 2009 thanks terry. it's too bad mine didn't come with a body, but it had the chrome wheels like the first link you posted. i have yet to see an example of the "ribbed chassis" like mine though. maybe it's a panda. i'll have to take some pics tonight. Mighty flex 0 Posted July 31, 2009 i have one of the 'ribbed' chassis that came with a parts lot, i do think the plastic feels a bit more flexible, and in all honesty looks like it has stood up to the tests of time better than a simularly old genuine hornet chassis
kaiser 8 Posted July 31, 2009 i agree mighty flex. this chassis has taken hits that would have left my real hornet in peices. infact it has become my favorite runner. i have outfitted it with hornet rear shocks, a parma hornet body and in the next couple of weeks oil shocks and crp front end kit. hornets/hoppers were always my personal favorite "bashers". kaiser 8 Posted July 31, 2009 i'm now thinking it's an acadamy roadrunner. i have emailed a member ot tc who has one to check the chassis for the ribs/ridges. either way i'm not upset that i got sold a clone, it runs great and i have a ball with it. i'm seriously considering starting to collect all variations of the g-hoppers/hornets and their clones.
