Purple Buggy Champ

I was in Halfords yesterday and I was browsing their paint section and spotted this pearlescent purple colour which looked quite funky. I immediately thought of purple as being a popular 1970's colour (velour and velvet spring to mind!), but being pearlescent it kind of has a modern twist to it. 70's with a modern twist just felt right to me for the Buggy Champ on principle.

So I went for it. But now I'm not sure if I've done the right thing and whether this is going to work. I don't really want to waste the decals on it if I end up deciding to re-do it. So I've got to decide at this stage to move on or rewind.

What do you think ? Is this going to work?

IMHO, Yeah, why not. The decals makes a world of difference.

IF you then deside to repaint, Jason might have some more decals soon.

However, you might wanna choose some better colours for the driver, that matches the body better

I think personally the only thing I need to change on him is the helmet ? I think the rest works ok ? What driver colours would you suggest ?

Re: decals etc - you're right, I can always get more. I can also always get another shell. So I'm 70/30 in favour of sticking with it at the moment.

You should do what makes YOU happy.

I think a white/grey "dirty" driver would look cool, but thats just me :-)

I see what you mean ... it's a colour choice that could be described as "bold" or "interesting" ...

I'm inclined to say go for it - by the time you've got the roof, lights & stickers on there, the whole effect will be a lot lighter - and at least it'll stand out from the hordes of blue or red/orange Buggy Champs out there ... it's not like you've gone for pink, after all

I decided the leave the driver as he was, as trying to make it work is likely to make it worse. I figured if it all looks like it was done in dreadful taste then it'll actually look quite good. So I went for a faux-walnut dash at the same time

It's amazing what a difference decals make to a bodyshell. Must admit I wasn't keen on the colour before decals but it looks really nice now.

Very nice. The darker purple really does give the white backed decals a really good contrast and makes them "pop" nicely.

Looks better than the standard orange or blue for that very reason imo.

Got a pic of it outside in the sunshine? Kinda hard to see the colour on the indoor shots. Looks almost black.

But agree - the decals made all the difference!

If the paint is pearlescent or metalflake, it would look even better in person.
