Could someone explain this for me please.

I have just bought a 2000mah Nicad and a 1600mah nicad. Both had two charges. Put the 2000 in a car with an esc and 17t motor and it was slow to accelerate but would build up speed. Put the 1600 in the same car and it flies.

What can cause some battries to lack punch? I have a charger that gives volts, amps and capacity as well as recognising amounts of cells. Nothing unusual when either battery was charged.

Help I'm confused

The 2000s might be poor quality cells that don't have as much "punch" as your 1600.

Either that or there is a weak cell in the pack that doesn't show up on the charger, but does struggle under load.

Biggins, What brand are the packs?? Are they good quality cells like Sanyos, or cheap and nasty Chinese ones??

Does your charger "cycle" ie. Charge then discharge, and then give a readout?? If so, give them a few cycles to see if the performance will get any better. I doubt that they will get better, as the only thing that usually improves after a few cycles with Nicd's is run time, not voltage (or punch).

Basically, it comes down to the internal resistance of the cell. Good quality cells = lower internal resistance of the cell = more punch.
