Tamiya, blimen Tamiya. Why oh why do you make me spend all my money on your cars..........wish I could read Japanese. That hopped up DB01 chassis looks like one for the shopping list (but no body shell?) and what is that 1/12 scale retro racer?

Try using the translator on the Google Toolbar. It's not great, but good enough to get the gist of things.

DB-01R details

Not sure of the accuracy, but seaching the web for item 84100 gave the above result in the link above

It will not come with:

Radio Gears (with ESC),

Motor,

Tyres,

Wheels,

Body and Wing

Tamiyablog now has the pictures of the three cars on their website

Does anyone know for sure if the DB-01R uses the reinforced carbon chassis?

In the list of additional features it mentions the '54040 DB01 Motor Heat Sink' and from what I've been able to see the standard chassis doesn't have the 'hole' cut out for this to fit (as expected) but the reinforced carbon chassis does (54041 Tamiya DB01 Carbon Fibre Reinforced Chassis).

Can I assume that the R does have the carbon chassis, or is it more likely to be a standard chassis with the 'hole' cut out to fit the motor heat sink?

Any ideas?

Not sure what it is made of, but there is a picture of the DB01R chassis on this thread from Oople.com: http://www.oople.com/forums/showthread.php...8439&page=4

Ah nice thanks.

From the picture and other text I've found it's definitely a new chassis for the R (not reinforced carbon which is required for DB-01 to use motor heat sink/plate).

I also just ran some numbers based on the difference between the 2 to see how much you'd spend on a regular DB to get it to the R spec had here's the breakdown in the pic:

post-31016-1254257461_thumb.jpg

Difference works out to be somewhere around £100 cheaper for the R with wheels/tyres/body/540 std added to the cost so it seems worth doing it this route rather than the standard + hop ups. The only main difference is that on the std setup I haven't included the TRF suspension setup which may be around £100 extra and therefore make the actual difference around £200 which is the cost of a Durga alone :)

Seems an interesting propostion provided I can get hold of a Durga bodyshell.....!! B)B):(

Cheers for the calculations as I actually bought a kit with the hope that it would be cheaper though wasn't brave enough to do the sums afterwards :lol:http://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.a...3&sid=19158

Re. the Durga shell, Kamtec do a repro shell: http://www.kamtec.co.uk/index.php?product_...1&Itemid=53 though on reading other forums/threads the Baldre shell has more room/cooling so depending what you plan to do that might be the better option (and the Baldre shells are cheap from Hong Kong).

Just had another look at your calcs; not sure if you should also include the cost, for example, the standard drive belts for the DB01R. As if you hopped-up the Durga/Baldre you would have these standard drive belts as spares. Though guess this would make the calculations quite complicated which was one of the reasons I shy'd away from doing them.

:P

Not sure how much 'more' cooling will be achieved by using the Baldre shell over the Durga (something a wind tunnel test may show) but hey these are 1/10th with the motor plate I'm sure it'll be sufficient, for the most part.

Where did you get your kit from and how much did it cost you?

Oh, just saw on the Club, you got it from Japan (yeah Customs will get you for that for sure) - anyone know how much Duty will be to UK for this kit?

I am now in Singapore , and went to the Tamiya showroom today.

-sorry, but I do not own a digital camera :) -

The Df03ra lancer and evo kits are interesting -

neither kit box has the graphics printed on them. instead the boxes are one solid colour (red for the lancer for example)

and there is only a sticker on the short sides showing the chassis and giving the details.

I hope this is not the future of Tamiya packaging. :o:(

And in addition to their bodies (Lancer, Sub) they come with a Dark Impact shell also. That's a nice inclusion I think.

Also in the shop were the nicest looking Tamiya shocks I have ever seen - an alloy set for the CR01. Really nice.

They also had a special display stand/area of all the new TRF products - its VERY tasty to look at!! :D:lol:

These new ultra low friction shocks look cool.

Was nice to visit, but none of the parts packets had prices on them. This is irritating as it prevents you from going in with a little money to buy yourself a gift within a limited low budget. It's not like you want to take up 20 items and ask them to price them all so you can choose! :(

Fun time and nice to see the latest releases all out on display. :-)
