Yeah it's on-road cars only. Could be tough going there on a weekend as they race, plus I'd imagine it's packed even on non race days. I wonder if they open on weeknights?

From what I can see on the website the latest they are open is 5pm. I don't know which days my wife is going to get off over Christmas yet, but perhaps if enough people are free, we could go over on a week day during the Christmas season. Or we could try another track?

Does anyone know anything about the Logan City Radio Control Car Club? Or we could head over to Wynnum.

Logan is gated and is locked up most of the time. I'd be keen to have a run over Xmas some time.

I called Trackside RC today. They are open every day (9am to 5 pm) over the Christmas period except Christmas and new years day.

- It's $10 for a days access to the track.

- Enclosed footwear must be worn.

- Any battery type is allowed.

- There is no one best day for novices to be on the track (This is my worry as I can't drive very well, and don't want to annoy the good drivers).

- No off road cars.

If any one is interest in having a day at the track over the next few weeks, can you please post which days would be good for you :D

If you have any questions I may have missed, Trackside RC's details are:

Trackside R/C Brendale

(Head office)

7 Strathwyn st, Brendale 4500 QLD

I'm always keen, but until christmas hits I doubt I'll make it, too much work on :) but I will keep an ear out and hopefully can attend. I too am also not keen on running with faster cars either, as I'd like to take my Celica LB Turbo and Renault Martini out for spin.

Even if there are other cars running, that track is plenty wide so they can pass without any hassles.

haha! I'm sure they will be more considerate to vintage runners than certain off roaders :D

I'm pretty booked up the next few weeks as well but whenever the next meet is I'll try my best to join in.

In all fairness though, the guys that race at brendale are proper racers as opposed to wannabe's who don't get the meaning of "vintage".

I'm in for any kind of run. It's not looking too busy for me over the next few weeks but that can change quickly unfortunately.

Hi Johann.

You're not alone, I think it's probably best we wait until after the 26th of December (at least for full day gatherings) , as this is a very busy time of year.

Do you have any places around your part of town that you might like to try out? Is anybody still interested in going to Boondall?

If you guys are concerned about running with faster cars at brendale then you will have the same concerns there.

Has anyone heard of Hobby Station, located at Archerfield. At they still operating? It looks like they have, or did have tracks.

Something makes me think it closed down. I could be wrong but I thought I read it somewhere.

Yeah, the website looks a bit unused and the phone is disconnected. I was hoping there was another explanation. It's a shame, as their tracks look great!

Here is a picture of the car park at Capalaba Park shopping centre. It may be a spot for a run? The bitumen is in a reasonable condition and there is a lot of open area.

Yep, another Brisbane rc shop to bite the dust. Unfortunately non-competitive pricing, limited range and the up and down nature of the hobby strikes again. Rc is still quite a niche market over here compared to overseas. I remember when you could walk into toy world or a hobby shop and it would be wall to wall Tamiya kits. What a shame the shops over here haven't really embraced the rebirth of the classic Tamiya kits. The ones that do stock a limited range are ridiculously over-priced. I remember walking into rc warehouse at springwood before it bit the dust to buy a battery. They had a re-re frog for 330 dollars. I'd just bought mine for half the price from overseas. When I told the clown that worked there what I paid for it, he said "no one is interested in old tamiyas so we don't really care if we sell any to be honest". Famous last words me thinks.

I would imagine a lot of these stores are finding it increasingly harder to compete with online shopping, but they have a lot of high expenses (leases and wages mainly) with a smaller audience. I use to try buy parts from my local store "Aussie Hobbies", but when I have to wait up to 8 weeks for a part, (they were hotshot parts) while other parts I ordered at the some time from Hong Kong arrived within 1 to 2 weeks, and usually at the same price or cheaper, its hard to ignore.

Anyway, as for track ideas, there are a couple of park tracks near me (McGregor and Eight Miles Plains), which I will take a picture tomorrow when I go for my morning jog,

Most Aussie hobby shops aren't interested in stocking Tamiya stuff nowadays anyway. I believe some of the reason for it is because of a certain distributor who makes life hard. Perfect opportunity for someone to import some Tamiya parts and resell I reckon.

I have run a couple of times at the track behind the sunnybank sports club- kinda on the border of macgregor and eight mile plains. It's not bad although it's a little narrow. Took some photos when I was there. Will chuck them up later on.

Anyone keen for a car park bash on the weekend? There are a couple of under cover ones at capalaba but have to use them after trading hours.

hmm, I was thinking I could escape later this evening, but I'm working all day and then my son has birthday party I am taking him too. That and the work I have to get done before christmas counts be out until after xmas. But over the break I'll have more time. Especially for a beach run, but would be happy with anything really.

Yep me too. Beach running could be a little tough with holiday crowds swarming the beaches. Will have to find a secluded spot. Id say if the weather is ok we will do off-road as we all have more off-road cars but if the weather is rubbish, then on-road is the goer.

yeah, crowds will be an issue. I've gone out to Wynnum before though, there is a little beach area that doesn't seem to get used much and is pretty good when the tide is out. Although the area isn't too big. You can see some pics here

[edit] have attached a better pic of the area, but just realised shade isn't that great.

and its just in front of the playground. Otherwise off-road or on-road I'll be keen. I should also have an RC Helicopter by then that I'd be keen to try out.

Other beaches to look into could be places like Sandgate or Redcliffe and I am sure that there would be places further south - places that unlikely to have large holiday crowds.

Be careful practising with the heli, especially if you only have a small indoor area. It hurts when you hit your shins (don't get blood on the carpet when practising indoors).

I have thought of putting a small video camera on one to get tracking shots of the cars running. I wouldn't be able to be the pilot though as I can barely hover with mine.

I am busy all through until the New Year's weekend so can't make it for a run until then.

Paul you almost tempted me to start looking at F1 cars by posting the Ferrari in your showroom. Must resist.

If painting and decaling arent you favourite things to do, F1 bodies will drive you nuts! It was a complete pain in the you know what to do the body. Building the chassis was fun though. My next investment will prob be an Avante 2011. They look so cool and building one seems like a badword of a challenge.
