Hi guys, im building my TRF damper set today and it has a few extra bits in the pack that I do or dont need. ;)

It says that the silicon o ring goes in the bottom and the 2mm o ring goes in the top and I know this is probably a silly question, but I just need confirmation that the clear o ring not the black rubber one, is infact the silicon o ring. theres 4 clear ones and 8 black ones so I assumed that the clear one goes in the bottom. is there much difference?

the other problem ive found is a fault in the parts tree! :)

I'm a bit gutted by this. I bought them from hong kong so its not like I can return them easily plus ive cut loads of parts off of the other trees and started building them! What shall I do, it doesnt use the same part on the old suspension. I dont think it will be strong enough to stay on the car.

should i ask dinball at rc mart to send me a spare part out but i dont want to cause him a problem or any money, will he be able to send me a spare one off another tree and return the cost to tamiya or something, my damper build has come to a halt until i can fix it!

Thanks

Rich

call or email tamiya's customer support center. these are an expensive item and they should absolutely replace the parts free of charge, especially with a photo like that clearly showing the flaw. i doubt they will give you much grief, and will likely apologize profusely for the defect.

Ive never needed to contact them before I have no idea how to, the tamiya site says contact your local agent, should I email them, for the uk it looks like "U.K.* The Hobby Company Limited 01908-209-480 01908-605-666 enquiries@hobbyco.net" would this be the one?

I couldnt find any support mails for tamiya directly on either tamiya usa or tamiya.com. is there a specific email I can use?

well I sent them an email aswell as a message to dinball, im not sure if the local agent will do anything regarding the overseas purchase?

has anyone had to return anything to tamiya before, from the uk? any other emails or numbers I can contact regarding this? all i need is the one tiny part sent to me in an envelope hehe.

Sorry Mate, I'm on the wrong side of the pond to help you out. I've called TamiyaUSA before with a problem, but that won't help you out much in the UK.

Have you tried phoning a few hobby shops to see if they have an agent or contact number? Might be worth a try?

The local Tamiya distributor might give you a bit of grief if you tell them you bought them from Hong Kong... If you go this route, don't mention where you got it, just say you bought a TRF damper set and the parts tree has a moulding error.

You could ask the seller if they'll replace the part, the best of the Hong Kong sellers are actually pretty good about this. They may post you another one of those parts trees free of charge.

The silicone o-rings are white and go in the bottom seals. The black o-rings are generally used as bump stops on the outside of the damper on the shaft between the damper body and the lower spring seat. Some builders may also use them inside under the piston to shorten the length of the damper.

As far as the broken part, the good news is they are the V parts tree and are cheap should the seller not want to cooperate with you.

Good Luck.

In my experience, RCmart is always willing to help out. But in this case I would let them know about it, and see what they say. If you are in a rush, try get the v-parts tree locally if you can.

RCmart once sent me 10 packs of mini foam inserts, instead of the 10 packs of m-grip tires I ordered. I photographed them and asked what I should do. They said I should send them back and they would in turn credit me for the mistake, as well as my shipping costs! It was a low cost item so I asked if instead they credit me with the difference in cost between the tires and the foams, thus saving the hassle and of course the shipping from Dubai...they saw the light in this suggestion and we both ended up without too much sacrifice....

By this I believe they will deal fairly with you, particularly where a factory defect is quite clear. And you can bet that they will be getting a credit from Tamiya anyway...

...the problem that you have now is: no shocks....but if I were you, check local ebay listings for a little item, or even your LHS if they are likely to carry the parts tree you need.

Regards

Andy
