Grasshopper Family Tree...

Recommended Posts

I have a vintage Grasshopper and a vintage Academy Galaxy Buggy that I am restoring.

I would like to start a collection of the cars that shared the Grasshopper chassis.

Besides the Grasshopper Re-Release, Rising Fighter, Hornet, Grasshopper II, Rockbuster, Road Runner and Road Runner II what other cars are out there. Is there a complete list somewhere?

Let me know.

Thanks,

JOHN

Don't forget the Super Hornet.

Besides the Galaxy, Academy also sold the "Super Mantis". They also sold a kit that used the same chassis with a Hummer body.

Then there is the Panda "Cyclone" (was made by Thunder Tiger I think). This one has lots of alloy bits.

Parma made (still makes?) Lexan Grasshopper bodies.

Also look for the Mugen Manx.. I have a picture of one at home I'll need to attach to this post.. It was an exact copy of the Grasshopper chassis with a different body and hop-ups like the World Engines Rockbuster

Super Hornet and Grasshopper II have a slightly different chassis, but still the same basic layout of swing arm front suspension and live rear axle.

You could also count the Lunchbox and Midnight Pumpkin in the similar family of cars.

There was another one from Mini Craft. I don't remember the name of the buggy but it could have been named in the previous threads.

What about the Grasshopper II Super "G" I know its another GH but it was sold as a new kit 49501 (Addmitingly a hopped up version but still...) There were several different kinds of GH II Super "G" released with different coloured stickers on the box all are very collectable in their own right and can fetch a pretty penny.

In my showroom I have put all 3 kits that I have together the GH,GH II,GH II Super "G" as a family picture .
