Not bothered by it myself as the forum is open to everyone, so even if someone else benfits from the information, so be it.

If the person who asked the question does not respond, then it just reflects badly on that person. I won't go around asking him/her to thank me or anything - end of topic for me that's all.

In the posting you listed, it seems that the person registered, posted the message and probably got his/her answer somewhere else and never bothered to return ...

I guess this is one for the moderators to decide if the account persists with no postings, logins or activity for a while (some months?) they can suspend the account or something and we get less of these issues.

Don't worry about it mate .. it's their loss :D

I'm not after a thank you as im rarely that helpful lol, Its true that it does reflect badly on them but it's not a major issue that if its not sorted my life will have some major malfunction.

I forgot to add this in my original post, from me a thank you to anyone who has spent time helping other's & making this community fun.

Chris

P.S I finish work in 5 minutes time to go home lol

I`m with you Chris,it is nice to say thanks when someone helps, just common courtesy really.

The internet is not noted for being a polite place though IMHO.

Sometimes the helpers are rewarded though :D so keep helping folks

i agree. i came here 5 years ago looking for information.

i got the help i needed, i was thankfull so i stuck around. (and i'm very jealous of the tamiya scene on the "other side of the pond")

in reality this situation is much worse on other sites, the volkswagen site i frequent is loaded with "one post wonders".

but still i agree that it is only polite to thank the one that help you. :D

If it's a question and answer topic, yes, it's appropriate to thank people for their answers, support, information and requests like pictures or scans of instructions etc. If it's a topic just to show a project and it's progress, I think thanking every single reply is a bit overdone and plainly annoying, but a thanks in general to the response however is nice

I'm not usually bothered too much by it, but being polite and thankful to your fellow (forum) members keeps the atmosphere of the forum as nice and open as it is

(Now that last line I've just typed makes me feel like an old man, and I'm not even 18 yet) :D

can't be bothered..

can't expect everyone to say thank you.

ER patients are not known to be polite to begin with. They're just grumpy, impatient people..

the robbers/pick pockets won't say thank you either when they snatched your bag.

When I see a New member with a question like that I just know they are one thread wonders and you will never hear from them again they got the info they needed then its exit stage left .

It bugs me too makes me think twice before replying .

RANT OVER !

meh... agree with ya but i wouldn't lose sleep over it

try this one for WORSE... http://www.tamiyaclub.com/forum/index.php?...ic=52140&hl

Two-n-a-half-GRAND ask for some fancy TL01 by a first poster - saw it when it was just first post

but CBF'd replying "you're dreaming, good luck with the sale"... so glad now i saved the energy/hassle too :D

Some ppl just have insufficient maturity to handle the truth when they ask for opinions that clash with their own.

It is worth noting that the automatic (factory) settings of the forum does not send an email when someone responds, so the newbie poster might be unaware that anyone had replied in the first place.

Keep well,

Paul.

Whining about not getting a thank you is really not that great forum attitude either... While it is common courtesy to thank for help received, the well behaved do not need to point out every non-polite action they experience as they are above that.

As Paul mentioned, not everyone gets e-mails about replies. Moreover not everybody "lives" here, some only stop by every now and then. Add to that the holiday period and several might nog check the forums as frequently as people who spend the time here rather than doing what their employers pays them to. :D

Am I too harsh, maybe? Part of creating a great forum atmosphere that embraces newcomers is also the ability to turn the other cheek. Providing great answers to peoples questions is excellent - great of you to do so! However, starting a thread and link to a newcomer's post saying that bloke clearly lacks manners - is that good manners? I say no. That is not welcoming at all, it is in no way a fruitful topic.

Regarding one-post-wonders and seriously overpriced used gear - report them to a TC moderator. Some ask too much because they have been ripped of themselvese, some because they do not know the value and some might hope to get lucky. When we members try to moderate eachother we only run the risk of getting into trouble. Come to think of it - I should report this thread for the very same reasons.

Hey guys. Look, we're all adults. You're going to run across idiots in life with no manners. It's not worth it to get bent out of shape about it. Nothing you do (complaining or otherwise) is going to make the guy wake up the next morning and say: "I've seen the light, I should start saying 'thank you.'"

Help because you want to.

Hi RichieRich,

Just noticed that it says TC_moderator on your post, are you a new moderator or one from long ago.............just wondered if we had worn either TWINSET or terry.sc out

:D No, I just look worn out

Richie's been a mod for ages now (ages and ages)

Obviously most of the guys here come across as helpul old souls, so people are happy enough to ask questions - It would be nice if everyone thanked everyone for everything, but I guess you guys just gotta take one on the chin every now and then.

Could be a lot worse, we could just ignore all these invasive noobs and just become an insular bunch or hermits (although I must admit I don't see a downside to that :P)

There's more than 2 mods around here........

to be honest though, compared to most forums not much moderation is required.

As for the original topic, it's been disussed many times here.

Most members here are very helpful, and not looking for recognition of their knowledge, we just help out because we enjoy our hobby.

I'm glad you're still both firing on all cylinders, I don't think I would last a day being a moderator :P

EDIT - there's even more of you (stulec52)..........I need to open my eyes :D

It's funny. This place generally doesn't need much moderation. But, there have been several posts reported over the last several days so all the mods are "out".

Most of the time I'm firing on all cylinders. Though, I don't seem to be now as I can't remember how long I've been a moderator.

Basically there is a few reason's i left this for a while 1. He hasn't posted again for nearly a month which is my point , Maybe its good to be a part of a forum were its not full on '1' post wonders & have a little interaction to keep the community going. If you don't mind having a forum full of '1' post wonders enjoy the world of the pointless forum. Is i good manners asking for help getting the answer your looking for & never returning & getting someone else to search for items or information shows your not really interested in. On this occasion. By typing ford falcon 1/10 body into google finds the body he was after!

Hi everyone - I find it a little ironic that this will be my first post here, on the topic of "bad forum attitude." and 1 post wonders :)

In my humble opinion, I think it's bad form to simply sign up to an established/well rounded site, drop a question - in which an answer or opinion is illicited and not even post a thanks. If you take the time to sign up for a forum or have lurked on the forums for a bit - it just seems a little childish/selfish ( for lack of a better term) not to thank those those who offer assistance not to mention, understanding that members who take the time to read the initial post/question and respond to it are not forced to do so.

In the end - if posters such as these do not bother coming back then the boards might be better off. Moreover, people shouldn't get bothered by this behavior as 1 hit wonders have been around since the dawn of the web.

I have lurked here for a while and finally joined because I knew this place has a lot of knowledge to offer that I may not have. Those who are willing to contribute positively will hopefully receive positive results ;) those that don't....well.......they are just one click away from moving on.

Cheers

When I first came to TC and asked for help I was completely in the deep end I didnt know what an ESC was or anything (still dont lol thats not the point). I got tonnes of great help off of the guys here and a great welcome to the hobby. Im still here and I love it. I hope I said enough thanks but truly, my best way of saying thanks is hanging around and passing that knowledge on to someone else and helping to build on the community. Its not so hard to repeat the same lesson once or twice but to repeat it many many times is going to be very hard for the veterens. I hope that there is times when I can pass on what everyone else has helped me with.

What I mean is, your efforts do also go a long way with people who do appreciate. :)

My point is that his bad behaviour is no excuse for your bad behaviour...

When I reply to a question I do not look at who is asking (in order to screen newcomers). I post replies to help others, like others helped me out when I got started in the hobby many years ago. There really is nothing more to it. Considering the size of this excellent community, you very seldom run into rude people. That alone is an even stronger reason not to get so worked up when it happens. There are more worthwhile things in life to save that negative energy for.

If you are so sensitive about not receiving thanks for your contributions, perhaps posting on Internet forums are not your thing?
