Time for a new topic to launch the Winter Indoor series at Hinckley Radio Controlled Car Club.

The club will be holding Tamiya class racing heats for road cars with standard 27turn sealed "silver can" motors as part of the weekly Saturday afternoon meetings. The class will be open to Tamiya and other makes of cars with the aim of being an inclusive class allowing people to race whatever road cars they have. Silver can motors only though to keep things cheap and evenly matched. This has the potential to be a lot of fun and a great opportunity to race many older chassis you may have stashed away in the loft or gathering dust as shelf queens. 4WD or 2WD, FWD or RWD road cars can all be raced together in this new class so start thinking what cars you have you'ld love to be putting around a track again and enjoying the Retro Racing spirit indoors.

First race of the Winter season starts September 19th in the sports hall at John Cleveland Collage Hinckley. See the clubs website for details and directions. If you don't already know Hinckley is centrally located in the UK - just off the M69 or A5 between Coventry and Leicester. HRCCC Website.

The racing season moves indoors at HRCCC this Saturday (19th) - this week is a non-scoring round. So if you're looking for somewhere in the Midlands to race your Tamiya Tourer - give us a try. The only restriction is the motor - sealed silver can motor like you find in the kit.

Cheers

Too right James - this Saturday's non-scoring round is a great opportunity to get in some practice laps round the track and get a feel of how your car is going to handle on the Hinckley carpet.

It shouldn't affect most people but there is one other restriction other than just the 27T sealed silver can motor and that is tyres - rubber tyres only - not foam or sponge tyres. Idea is to keep things fairly close to stock out of the box set-up. It will help keep cars evenly matched, the class easy to enter for newcomers, and the racing non-serious, fun, and friendly. ( Hopefully! ) I guess on the same point batteries should be restricted to 7.2volt NiMh or 2 cell Lipo as well.

Should be a good seasons racing. If anyone is thinking of joining us then please get in touch or just come and see us. We don't take the racing seriously, we have a good laugh, and there's a good chance we'll even be able to loan you a car and give you a go at racing a heat. Make sure you track down one of us RETRO lot if you come to visit and we'll make you welcome.

Lets go racing!!!!!!!!...............

Last Saturday was the second round of the indoor season at Hinckley RCCC. We had a good turnout, especially with the Mardave V12 heats due to the 2009 Mardave GP on the Sunday.

This was my first opportunity to try my hand at the new Touring Car class orientated towards Tamiya cars. We had a good turn-out with a full heat - which was surprising as there were a number of people unable to make the meeting. I was running my newly built TT01 Type E (click here to see Quick Silver Racer), fitted with a couple of low-cost hop-ups to make it more suitable for racing.

The first round - I'd put too much tyre additive on the front making it over-steer badly - it also topped out after 10ft due to the kit pinion and spur (19/61). For the second round - I changed the pinion and spur to 23/58 - this was much better and I improved by two laps, but the car still topped out half way down the main straight. Unfortunately I didn't have a higher gearing option with me, so I had to make do. That said, the car went great all day and really showed it's potential as a racer.

This week, I think the racing is going to be even better - no doubt everyone will be trying to realise the potential of their car, which should lead to some close racing. I going to try a 25/55 pinion/spur gearing (overall ratio of approx 5.7) - this should allow it top out at the end of the straight. Assuming my alloy shocks arrive from HK - I'll also be seeing how much difference oil shocks make to the lap times.

Rather than topping out at the end of the straight, aim for 2/3rds along the straight... this will enable you to brake in time for the first corner...!

Hi Amitooold,

You're right...but I forgot to mention that the track layout at Hinckley usually includes a fast sweeper at the end of the main straight that you can take full blast. B)

Cheers for you comment bud

Yep you saw me there .... and quite a few other Quick Silver racers - was it 7 of us in the class this week? Certainly made a good heats worth. Some great fun close racing - occasionally very close racing :D - this race class is turning out to be an awful lot of fun. On track this week were multiple TT-01s, multiple TB-01s, a TL-01, and even an M-01 - the FWD Mini being surprisingly quite a performer and was mixing it well with the 4WDs. Here's a couple of photos of cars raced this week. Although the racing is competitive I think the cars show we're not taking things too seriously. Why not come along and join in the fun!

"Scooby" - TT-01 chassis

"YellowGlo" - TL-01 chassis

"Scooby Too" TB-01 chassis - Brat Shell.

Both Erica and I will be down before Christmas (fingers crossed), I have nothing to race a TT01 set up as a drift and a TB01 as a rally just wont cut it LOL, but Erica is looking forward to giving her TB02 a blast again.

Hi Rich, I'm sure we can sort you out with some racing slicks for the TT-01 - or there's always one of the club cars available free on loan to anyone who books them in advance. The first club car is a TT-01E and will be set up to the best set-up agreed upon by the rest of us - it'll be a competitive car. The second club car was only announced this weekend and I've yet to see it. Bookings are through the club chairman. Be good to have you and Erica race with us.

Seems like a good excuse to buy another then car to me! :D

Don't rule out racing one of the club cars - they may be available on the day if they're not pre-booked.

I know where there is a nice 415, but to buy it for silver can racing may be a little daft :D, thanks and see you all soon.

We should be having a good turn out tomorrow for the Quick Silver series at Hinckley RCCC - this class is growing in popularity ecah week.

So why not join us and see what all the fuss is about.

Any questions - just ask

Well don't just sit there reading forums on your computer - today is race day! Get up, get out, it's a beautiful day out there. Perfect for a cruise over to Hinckley for a bit of fun racing in our Quick Silver touring car class. You know you've got a suitable car - anything goes with a stock Silver Can motor in it, TT-01s are good and everybody's got one of them, right?! So go on hit that OFF button below the screen and we'll see you trackside from about Noon onwards - we know you'll enjoy it!

Hi Tamiya Monkey, Todays Quick Silver racing was a lot of fun. Some very close racing again - good to see the turn out building for this class every week - we'll be needing 2 heats for the stock silver can motor "Quick Silver" cars before long.

Managed to grab a few start line shots before the heats - grabbed in a hurry as I had to make it to the podium to race. Will be good if you make it down, if you're not racing you can definately take some better photos than I have!

Fantastic fun today - the racing was even closer than last week and was attracting attention from racers of other classes. Three more should be joining us next week.

Looking forward to it already.

Here's a question for TC Members in the Midlands who want a bit of R/C fun over the weekend.

Q. What do you do when the weather forecast for Saturday predicts heavy rain all day?

A. That's easy - you bring your silver can powered touring car along to Hinckley Radio Controlled Car Club and have a great afternoon racing in the 'Quick Silver' series. ;)

As this weekend looks miserable - make your alternative plans now and join us. We'll be expecting even more racers this week - so the racing will be even closer. (I know - I can't believe it, but it's true! ;) )

Go on - you know you want to...

Is anyone running a TB02? If so do you have any gearing recommendations?

Nobody running any Tamiyas that sophisticated yet! I'd suggest heading for a gear ratio similar to what we're running in the TT-01s - that's a 55T spur and 25T pinion giving a ratio of 5.72. I'm running the same set-up in my TB-01 and that's also going well. Are you thinking of making the trip down this weekend or is this just planning for the future?

Right I hope that we will be down within the next month, got a practice night on Thursday at our local club so I can test gearing and setup on our cars , yes I have managed to acquire a suitable Tamiya tourer... may be a little overkill but I couldnt miss it for the price a TRF415 :P, for £50 I was going to think about paying more for a TT01.

Photo's here... click me

Yes it was! Just don't tell Erica, or at least dont tell her when I bought it and for how much.
