So I am about to embark on a Rally Car build. I decided on the 58430 DF-03 Ra with the 2008 WRC Subaru body.

Has anyone successfully fit the Dark Impact body underneath the Subaru body?

I'm just trying to think of good ways to protect interior electonics from dirt and dust.

I know the kit also comes with a full set of ball bearings - but are there any other no-brainer mods I should perform as I'm building this bad boy?

I bought 58417, its a different shaped shell though so I cant guarantee it will fit yours but it fits under the normal subaru with plenty of room at the rear for other shells.

heres a picture of mine (ive added more since the pic, its a bit more beaten up too hehe)

The car is pretty good as it is for bashing, most of the hop ups I think are more for when you start racing or put faster motors in or to bling it up. Slipper clutch can prevent damage from jumping and stuff. The plastic parts flex and take more pounding than the alloy parts which are also heavier so ive read. Ive got universals in which feel tighter but still unsure of how they perform against the originals. Heat sink bars can fit onto the standard alloy motor plate.

have fun building your car :) youll see when you first drive it that its pretty good out of the box.

The Dark Impact body should fit underneith the 2008 Impreza; It's not any longer, wider or higher than any touring car shell and should fit. If you can still fit an interior in it afterwards is something I do not now though, but for the Impreza you would have to buy an interior seperately anyway.

As for upgrades it needs as stock... I'd replace the bearings for sealed ones because I think the metal shielded ones won't stop all the water and dirt from coming into the bearings or maybe even into the gearbox. I'd also go for universal shafts at the front, and preferably also on the rear, and possibly some hopups like a one-way unit to change the handling to your preferences.

Thanks for the tips, fellas! It sounds like the Dark Impact body should work. I'll probably replaced the metal bearings with sealed bearings...didn't even think about that!

I'm sure the dark impact body will fit fine.

I have the 92200 model Castrol Celica and use both the DI body and the interior. It all fits and there is no rubbing.

I use mine as a runner at it is already pretty beat up :) Only upgrade till now is some HPI pirelly rally tires and the tt01 style rims (some cutting is needed to clear the C-hubs). The original rally block tyres wear out quite quickly if you run it on dusty tarmac as I do.

I have one of those cheapo EZRUN brushless systems on the way which will be fittet soon. Untill now I have run mine with the Tamiya Sport tuned motor which is quite ok but is feels like it can easily handle a bit more.

Hope you will like your Df-03ra as much as I do mine.

....not quite, you will still need 4 x 850 bearings for the steering posts, for some reason Tamiya doesn't feel they needed to be included in the "full bearing" kit... :)

That's indeed absolutely a most stupid idea from Tamiya... Ah well, luckily these bearings costs only 3 pennies a piece nowadays
