Last night I attended a club meeting and entered my first races for over 25 years. That 25 years gap certainly showed itself along with the fact it was my first ever time on carpet. Boy is that stuff slippery!!!

I had my fair share of crashes and rolls, but I must say that the paint on my Impreza performed very poorly. It's Tamiya paint and was applied correctly to the thoroughly cleaned shell. I expected damage, but not this amount.

I thought I had, but maybe I picked up the wrong one. Bins have been emptied so I can't check. Rubbing the paint as it is now is causing it to flake, so I probably have used the wrong one. Was sure I used the PS-16 reference when I picked up the paint.

Looks like it went on too thick, how many coats did you use? And did you wash the body with washing up liquid?

I tend to do 5-6 even but light coats, about 3-4mins between each (tack dry) as light coats dry much quicker than thick ones.

Been to Barnstormers for some more paint and he remembers me buying the last lot. He's sure I used the PS.

I did only apply the paint in thin coats, as I always do. I've got bodyshop qualifications and know how the spray. I left 20 mins between coats. The body was fully and thoroughly washed beforehand and dried properly. It's bugging me now what went wrong.

Anyway, I've got more paint, blue and black for the bonnet abd made doubly sure it's the PS. Hopefully it will take better this time. The old stuff will no doubt be a pain to remove in places, but I'll persevere.

Thanks for input.

For racing indoor get yourself some foams, i use Gekos from Microtech racing CLICK HERE The lower the Shore number the higher the grip and softer they are, i use 26mm 30 rears and 32 or 35 front. What chassis are you running?

Not sure what you have done with the paint but it ain't right. I have sprayed 3 shells all with tamiya paint and non have any scratched or flaked, two racing ones especially get beat up and the bodies are cracked but the paint is solid. I bet it looked good before though, nice handy work on all the decals.

That's definitely TS paint - I made the same mistake on my very first RC car with lexan many many moons ago when I didn't realize there was a difference - it looked exactly the same!

I had PS Paint do exactly the same thing. I've spoken to a friend who works at wheelspin, and he confirmed that there was a dodgy batch of PS paints.

Maybe a batch where they forgot to add the etch chemical?!

It seems that the only paint flaking had already, pretty much, come off. What was left is adhered very well. I've been able to patch it up and it looks good now. It also seems strong now. I've given it some test bumps and no flaking.

I very much doubt there would be dodgy batches of the paint. Every batch is usually checked at source as part of the quality control. They have to test every batch to ensure the viscosity is correct and that it coats properly. I think that the shell got contaminated after washing, or I just didn't do a very good job in my initial preparation.

looks good again, i'd def go for some foams if your racing on carpet, that or some scumacher rally blocks.

they offer more grip than the stock tamiya ones.

when i started racing again earlier this yeas, ihad somthing break every meeting, it's always the way!!

good luck with it dude.
