Alright, so now its concrete that the shell is different from the original, what sort of prices would I be paying for a NIB "ORIGINAL" Sand Scorcher & what prices should I be paying for a NIB "ORIGINAL" Sand Scorcher body kit??? :)

Posted
Just noticed no sunroof either so it's definitely Blitzer. Are those windows tinted?

The Blitzer has a sunroof though doesn't it? Got a little hole in the corner for the antena

I think we all just have to be grateful that a re-release has happened. It pleases everyone in the sense that the original is still 'the original' and yet it allows a new generation to buy, build and race a car that many of us were fortunate to to do the first time round.

Mr Tamiya has listened to our cries! Won't it be awesome to see these cars racing around again.

I now look forward to seeing the new thread on the old 3-speed release!!!

Yes, the BB has a sun roof, with antenna hole.

Tamiya have stuffed it up. A Sand Scorcher has seperate doorhandles, clear back lights, rounded mudguards, and the original SS nosecone. I'm pretty disappointed with the look of the body. It just doesn't look right at all.

The beancounters at Tamiya need a right royal badwording in my opinion. :)

I call a worldwide Tamiyaclub boycott on the blue and white blitzer!!!

It's near enough for nostalgia purposes, I'll be picking up a couple :)

Sorry for those who really wanted the original style shell. I guess the cost of tooling it was just too great to make financial sense.

On the upside, there will now be a plentiful supply of clear windows and indicator lights to put on a restored shell.

I think everyone should be happy as:-

1.Owners of original scorchers will still have the holy grail and will hold its price.

2.Suppliers of repro body parts will still be able to make money on them as the new bodysets will be different from the original.

3.Tamiya fans like myself who cant afford an original will get the chance to own something that is very similar, that you wont mind running as parts will be plentiful.

4.Tamiya sells bucketloads of the scorcher 2010 to keep the coffers happy.

win win situation for all concerned.

Thankyou Tamiya

Colin. :)

First off: THANK YOU TAMIYA!!

then: shouldn't you disappointed guys be happy that all your 58016 Scorchers are still kind of unique, valuable and collectable? Now you can have a new Scorcher to play with and put your vintage stuff in a display cabinet, stare at it murmuring 'it's the real one, it's the real one' ;)

That is 100% my opinion. :)

I pre-ordered 2 SS2010 with RC-Champ. I'm realy happy about how the re-re turned out. Why?

- My Mk.1 Scorcher will hold its value and stay unique. Will be prepared for the shelf.

- I can now build up a Beetle bodied SRB (I will call it that from now) from NIB and be a happy bunny! and

- I can also run it like it should, if I want to.

- Also, prices for original Sand Scorcher parts might come down a bit, which is also a good thing in my book.

Why is it everybody complaining about how different the 2010 version is from the original?

Same persons who were complaining about the Buggy Champ beeing too similar to the Rough Rider and fearing severe cuts in value of their Originals?

I don't get it...

Can someone explain to me how the nose is different to the original?

It might protrude further past the headlight lenses

If you look at a Blitzer nose, specifically, the nose is a lot further foward than the lenses, whereas the SS/MB one isnt.

For the uneducated, the one at the top's the Sand Scorcher :)

Exactly fella, as I said a few pages ago Tamiya seem to be in a no win situation. If they made the 2010 Sand Scorcher 100% authentic there would have been uproar by certain members as it was devaluing an original, so they make it a tiny bit different and still members on here complain! Ridiculous!

As far as Im concerned its close enough to look great and original but not so close that it takes away anything from the original!

He's a witch - burn him :)

Couple of things still left to clarify later;

Is the license plate a sticker?

Will the blanking out of the rear body post holes of the BB shell be visible or is this a new moulding?

There's clearly a sunroof on the box - that could be cause enough for legal action should the kit not include one - Misadvertised goods, goods not fit for purpose etc.

After counselling college I'm off to law school - This re-re is a right money spinner for some of us

On the contrary, in my opinion... Tamiya is in a win-win situation here :-)

Original collectors are reliefed, and will probably buy one to actually run a "Scorcher", (not that I think Tamiya cares about the minority of collectors out here...)

The vast majority of the customers (99,9999 % I would guess) does not even know about "the original" and certainly don't care about the shape of this and that. The vast majority will buy the new Scorcher, as a lot of people did in the early 80's, because it looks very good! It's that simple...

I think that they do, otherwise we wouldn't have limited editions.

We don't know the conclusions they reached, but I'd be surprised if Tamiya didn't at least consider the collector on a re-re like the Scorcher.

Don't believe at all these strategies about collectors and non collectors.

Simply Tamiya modified the mould in the past and now will not build a new mould due the hi costs.

I suppose Tamiya re-did the error with the nosecone for the Blitzer Beetle and now made a new little mould for this re release. This is the reason the nosecome is slightly different.

Here's my poll about the new scorcher:

Well, I like it.

I hope it has clear tail light lenses, Tamiya have been good at updating old shells with the ability to add LEDs.

Looks great to me, and i dont think i could tell the difference unless i had both shells side by side certainly wouldnt of known anything if not for this fourm lol, think they have done well by all to be honest.
