Funny you should mention batteries, any thoughts on what battery would be best for a new SS. I've been out of RC for a few years, just getting back into it. Lipo?? is that better?

There are 3 types of battery that fit inside the battery compartment. Tamiya's own Li-FE LF1100 6.6v packs, the vintage 7.2v Ni-Cd hump pack, or a modern 7.2v Ni-MH hump pack (5 cells along the bottom with the 6th on top between cells 2 and 3).

I'm starting to get annoyed now. Parcelforce have had mine for 5 days and still no sign of it. What are they playing at?

Always an annoying situation.

The Norwegian "slow motion" customs kept my Clod for two weeks.

I'm expecting that, but why don't they just bring the %*~# thing to my door so that I can pay it.

It's because they have stopped accepting cash at the doorstep, like what happened to our rent man where we have to go to a place to pay. It's because of safety reasons i.e. mugging for money etc.

I remember in the past paying the ParcelF(o)(a)rce guy on the doorstep for the Customs Fees.

Even the milkman is asking us to pay online now LOL.

Hope you get yours soon, it must be very exciting receiving such a nice looking box, it tempts me more and more daily LOL. I do want a body box set now for the nose cone and exhaust etc., so I will at least be getting that.

I think you can even order an empty SS kit box from Tamiya USA? Pity they don't ship to UK but there is a company that will act as an intermediary for doing this.

Cheers,

Alistair G.

When is TowerHobbies going to ship here in the USA?!!!

ARG!

Tower Hobbies will ship after every other vendor in the world has sold out, and every TC member has 2 Scorchers in their showroom.

UK Models always include the ESC, not all imports do, plus there would be no follow up with recalls (as Tamiya have proven recently that their quality control isn't what it used to be).

I will probably get slammed for saying this, but the more we chat about this online, the more likely people are going to get hit up as HMRC get more and more savvy to the tricks of the trade. It doesn't bother me, I don't live in England, but these guys in customs go online too :-)

Hi Paul, good point about that 1st item you mention but I rather think that the UK Customs haven't got the money or manpower to be going to the lengths of looking on "toy car" forums seeing if a few people are managing to avoid paying a few quid in fees.

Surely that would be 'small potatoes' and they would instead try to go after the 'big fish' as it were?

LOL

Cheers,

Hi Ali G. :-) I get the impression that they really are already clamping down in countries like Norway, Denmark and even here in Czech, there are billions in undeclared/underdeclared goods and all it takes is a few guys researching online who could recoup thosands a day each. Already Germany asks for Paypal invoices forwarded to prove what you paid etc. I think the 'golden' era of nods and winks is coming to a close, personally, especially with the government needing to get some cash in with the recession not in our distant memories. It will start to be run more as a business I reckon.

The collection of money online is only the beginning, they will monitor all your purchases and goods.

This thread will self destruct at 100 pages. I suspect Badboy will take the brunt of the blast.

Only 10 pages left!!!;)

Is anyone gonna be making the chrome front bumper and rear motor cage as were seen a while back on some members original Scorchers?

agreed but still i think we should keep what know to ourselves as we all know how we managed to receive our kits for the actual cost of it without any 'inflation' ... so to those who may have inadvetantly revealed how they have managed to received their kits ... should just censored it for the good of all our future endeavours as and when Mr Tamiya reveals his new magical creations ...

1 of those is already on ebay ... even posted the same pic as on TC???

Hi,

I have already chromed loads of rear bumper cages in shiny mirror chrome, as well as the gear and motor covers :-)

Is this what you meant? I have uploaded pics on TC and have them for sale on eBay.

I was thinking of chroming front bumpers (regular re issue stock ones) if anyone thinks they will look good - they aren't box art though.

Got my Scorcher today

Was a little scared at first, the box it was shipped in was looking a bit beat up, but on the inside the kit box and contents was fine  problem is, they didn't include my carry bag!!!! ;)

And yep, the rear cage does have the holes drilled too far back (mine was from the first batch at RcMart), no big deal for me though it's going to be a regular runner :D :D

But hey, all problem's aside, when you see this sittting on your desk there is nothing but a big giant grin :D

Cheers Mark, so which would you buy, do any give longer run times than other, or charge better...?

I'll be running mine on the LF1100 6.6v packs (2x A123 cells). The lower voltage won't be of concern for me as I'm also going to use the new Tamiya brushless system in them. I have A123 cells in other models and they perform great (9.9v 3s packs though and not the 6.6v 2s).

I will never buy another Ni-MH battery pack, and the vintage packs are near impossible to find, so it was a very easy decision for me.

What are others using or plan to use in their runner Buggy Champs and Scorchers?

Since my spare money is gone for now  I am just going to re-configure a couple of new NiMH stick packs I already have into humps, to get me running. Later down the track I will explore the LiPo's for it ;)

For those of you that want better shock dampening on your SRB, SS, RR/ buggy champ, I have found a good option..

http://www.hpiracing.com/products/en/87597/

These are for the HPI cup racer so they have skinnier bodies and fit the SRB very well. You will need to buy the 4 mm ball ends and 4 mm adjuster from HPI... they come in different lengths and you will need the longer ones in front

Ball adjusters

4.3 mm ball studs

Doesn't this violate some sort of code for using HPI parts on a Tamiya car?
