I'll be running mine on the LF1100 6.6v packs (2x A123 cells). The lower voltage won't be of concern for me as I'm also going to use the new Tamiya brushless system in them. I have A123 cells in other models and they perform great (9.9v 3s packs though and not the 6.6v 2s).

I will never buy another Ni-MH battery pack, and the vintage packs are near impossible to find, so it was a very easy decision for me.

What are others using or plan to use in their runner Buggy Champs and Scorchers?

I decided to bust out my Buggy Champ 2009 and verify the size of the battery compartment and it looks like it will fit the A123 2300MAH 2S1P no problem so I'm going to grab two of them. I can't wait until getting the Scorcher. It will be a nice project with my wife over the weekend, building it together.

Doesn't this violate some sort of code for using HPI parts on a Tamiya car?

Yes, it is punishable by death - moderators, please give me this users address so I can send round the Tamiyator T-1000 to stop this kind of behaviour :)

This has been killing me since I got back into RC late in 08...but what does SRB mean  (is not knowing that punishable by death?)

Glad you got yours F350. Mine's still not here.

Special Racing Buggy

Applies to the Buggy Champ and Sand Scorcher, the Ford Ranger, although some people say it isn't a Buggy, but shares the same chassis and was brought out for people who wanted a 3 speed, but couldn't afford one. Others argue that the Super Champ is also a Special Racing Buggy (SRB) although it was marketed as an faster better buggy and has many different parts (and the words Special Racing Buggy are nowhere to be seen)

Draw your own conclusions!

Keep well

I think perhaps not

It isn't a code though, it is written on the top of the mechanism box of every Sand Scorcher, Rough Rider, Ford Ranger and re issue Sand Scorcher and Buggy champ ever made!

haha, thanks guys, I'll try to remember that

Is the Super Champ an SRB? And if so then I hope Tamiya re-re it soon cos that's what I want in accordance with the punishment handed out by SRB Bloke!! :)

I thought it was a fair punishment, but maybe everyone could just ask for whatever model want. He He !!

D'Oh, Paul has already given me the info I need and thus I'm arguing that the Super Champ is an SRB!!

It's fair SRB Bloke.

... And yep, the rear cage does have the holes drilled too far back (mine was from the first batch at RcMart) ... But hey, all problem's aside, when you see this sittting on your desk there is nothing ...

Was just wondering if the rear cage for the buggy champ differs from the SS ... hmm need to look at the manuals ...

On another note ... does it smell good when you open up the box ...

I don't know, I have both at home so I could check, perhaps an SRB aficionado would know that off the top of his head

Ohh, and the smell is simply intoxicating, some people like the smell of fresh cut grass, for me it is Tamiya rubber tire smell :)

This is the drill!

Only 4 cars got the SRB on the boxes:

Rough Rider

Sand Scorcher

Buggy Champ

Sand Scorcher 2010

It doesn't say SRB anywhere on the Ranger or the Super Champ

But to me all six cars are SRB's!!!

Hi Badboy,

Shame on you

the Ford Ranger says SRB on the top of the mechanism box! But not on the actual packaging anywhere. Some people think it was a 3 speed after thought, I don't know myself what Tamiya were thinking when they released it though.

Super Champ : SRB? Maybe... That's all I will say this time, still got the scars from the last fight!

Jammy G@*, but at the same time, thats great news. Get down there pick it up and get the pics on TC. I know there's lots on there but we need to see more. For all us people still waiting its good to see light at the end of the tunnel.

And as far as I'm concerned Super Champ, will always be a part of the SRB family....

Wahey! That's one of the best work lunchbreaks I've ever had that's for sure! Still wasn't counting my chickens so took £50 with me to the post office but no, sure enough the lady just handed the parcel over. ;)

No doubt about it though, the tracking information said that it was awaiting charges when at Heathrow so I guess this means that it was merely at the checking stage and not necessarily nailed on for a whammy from Her Majesty's party poopers. :)

That's 8 out of 8 from Stella now. Long may my luck continue!

Will list this on the main page later on. I'd like to just sit here and drool for the next couple of hours but alas have to go back to work.

That's always been my thinking - the boxart was very 'kit accurate' on all the early models, even down to the weird front arms on the Sand Rover, but the FR boxart clearly shows leaf springs and live axles

OMG OMG OMG

Just got home to find a card saying my parcel will be at the local post office from 5pm. Haven't ordered anything else, so this must be it. My wife is amused at how excited I am.

Great to see the enthusiasm here. When it all comes down to it we are still just little kids, great aint it.

I have ordered mine from Stella, been excited since i got the confirmation mail of shipping.

Still a few days to wait, but for days i have been thinking already about the color etc.

One thing is for sure, it wont be boxart colors. Unless i get a 2nd (very tempting) SRB.

I was actually thinking (as i am from the netherlands) Spyker colors, well colors they have driven in or the F1 colors they used.
