I am full of questions today aren't i? :)

I was just wondering if buggies like trf511 and durga which are primarily racing buggies and as such are meant to run on smooth tracks and huge jumps would fair well in rocky type terrain?

Let me explain my theory, these cars have their suspension adjusted so it doesn't bottom out on huge jumps so that means the shock will have alot of "packing".

Now if the terrain is littered with lots of rocks would that type suspension be any good?

Suspension is easy to adjust by changing shock oil weight and spring firmness and a racer will change their setup all the time to suit various tracks. So yes the suspension will work fine for bashing, but it will have to be adjusted for conditions. I run TRF Aeration shocks on my DF03. These are the same shocks used by the 501x and new 511x and they are excellent for bashing.

The problem with rocky terrain is one of ground clearance. Buggies don't have enough of it. Monster trucks are much better suited for this with big tires. Blackfoot, Lunchbox, and Twin Detonator to name a few.

Well, cubsfan pointed out that ground clearance may be a problem. A little rough terrain isn't too bad for a buggy like the DF03 because that actually has a nice amount of ground clearance, but the DB01 and TRF501/511 don't have that much of them as stock. And the question is if you could even get a lot of ground clearance out of them, because they weren't developed for that. I wouldn't take a TRF501/511 for bashing anyway, it takes too much maintainance I think for plainly 'taking it out for a run.'

As mentioned in your other post i use my DB01 for both racing and bashing. Clearance is good, as far as i know the DB01 has greater clearance than the DF03 its also slightly wider and longer so more stable. Mine runs with Aeration option dampers with Associated spring set and it takes the bumps and big jumps well. It does catch a few big stones but it is set quite low for racing and stability. Thing is i run mine with a 5.5 brushless and Lipo so if it where too high it would flip over all the time, it does about 40mph :-)

I run 30w oil rear 40w front and silver Associated springs all round, The DB01 is a great car but you may be better with the DF03 MS if your purely bashing. The 501x and 511x i probably wouldn't bash as it has a more open drive train than the DB01 and the parts are more expensive. the main bits that can break on a DB01 you can get a full set for less than £30, thats the A & B carbon parts tree (front and rear suspension mounts & belt covers) and front and rear lower arms, thats about 2/3 the car, pretty much everything bar the chassis and the metal bits.
