shane24 0 Posted September 21, 2009 Hi Guys, New to the forum and just attempting to get back into RC Cars! I am looking at getting a Blitzer Beetle as a Restoration Project for the Winter, are there any top tips for restoring this chassis? I think i am going to do the Shell in a Dark Blue Colour with the Decals from the VW Touareg Paris Dakar Rally (Red Bull) what do you think? Either that or Cream Body with Racing Green Panels? Redbull 0 Posted September 22, 2009 Also I can't really help about the tips things but for the colors I think both of your ideas are good in fact hmmm think I would choose the RedBull because you don't see the dust and dirt on dark colors that fast + my gf is fan of that drink and that's why I have this username
Gruntfuggly 562 Posted September 22, 2009 Hi and welcome to the forums... Not too sure about tips either - the BB chassis is pretty robust, so I would just replace any bits that are actually broken and clean up the rest. Are you restoring for the shelf or to run? I may upgrade the Motor to the RS Sport Tuned and get it ball raced.

RobertvonGoess 0 Posted September 22, 2009 From my point of view the original steering rods (BD10 & BD11) are too short. I have "upgraded" to those from the XTM X-Cellerator (L/R-turnbuckles + short adjusters Tamiya 50797). Alu-Wheel-Hubs (e.g. Tamiya 53569) are useful too. wolfdogstinkus 1893 Posted September 22, 2009 Thanks, any idea of where i could get some Repro Original Decals for the blitzer? I think I got mine from europro, he is a member here but has an E-bay shop.
mooter 1 Posted September 22, 2009 They are originals, not repros! And they weren't expensive. And yes, I think I got mine from europro975 too. Although I dont see any from UK sellers on the bay at the moment, check item no 380155238364 though - under a tenner from Japan.
Amitooold? 0 Posted September 23, 2009 I like the Red Bull idea.. red, blue, silver and yellow... what more could you ask for? I'm getting a runner together too and have found that serious BB spares are a pretty rare find... OE wheels are a problem and expensive too, so if you haven't got a chassis yet, get one with good wheels... Dyna Blaster wheels fit apparently and they would be good for the red bull scheme 'cos they are silver, but the steering parts may have to be modified for DB parts.. OE shells are not cheap, but if you want a runner check out the Kamtec Lexan shells...

Also some decent replacement shocks or maybe just the springs?
wolfdogstinkus 1893 Posted September 23, 2009 I have a similar thread here, perhaps a mod could merge them. Edit to add, my thread was just for wheels and tyres.
Amitooold? 0 Posted September 24, 2009 Any idea if there are any tires that will fit that are good for tarmac? Also some decent replacement shocks or maybe just the springs? If you want tyres for the BB OE wheels remember the fronts are narrower than the rear so you might get some tyre profile oddities... but I believe any 2.2 tyre will go on... shane24 0 Posted October 2, 2009 Blitzer Beetle parts:http://stores.shop.ebay.co.uk/Tonys-Tamiya...;LH_TitleDesc=1 Antony Excellent Cheers, New rear tyres ordered! Does anyone know if there are aluminium Rear Shock mounts available for this chassis?
pastimesteve 49 Posted October 2, 2009 If you're talking about a replacement for the plastic shock mount (where the shocks are mounted), no. However, the DF-03 aluminum shock set (Tamiya and 3Racing) does fit the Blitzer Beetle. I use the 3Racing shocks on my Blitzer. Steve
Rizzo 0 Posted October 3, 2009 I'm also just getting back into RC cars, and after finally restoring a frog I bought in 1987 I started on a Blitzer. I kept the Frog mostly stock, but I like the idea of upgrading this car to get some more speed out of it I found a Blitzer Beetle in fairly good condition, and after giving it a few runs (with badly worn motor and shocks) I've started to replace some parts so maybe some of this list will be of some use to you? This is just stuff I've found searching, not all of it tried myself yet Parma lexan bodyshell- I like this one, it's almost exactly the same except for the front DF-03 shocks- I needed replacements anyway, but these are excellent upgrades Thundershot CVD M chassis uprights and C-mounts. Still waiting for these to arrive so I can fit them, but seems like they will fit and will allow a choice of more 2.2 wheels. Im not sure about how the front track width will be effected yet... I'm also hoping I can attach the steering arms to this in a way that'll reduce the bump steer, will have to see how that goes DT02 turnbuckle set- fits just great I've read only bad things about those rear tyres, so replaced the wheels and tyres to use HPI geolanders- gives some more ride height too I'm also getting a brushless Ezrun system, so should be fun! If i cannot get an Ali one i will get a replacement plastic one, anyone know anywhere i can get one? I believe it is on the B parts tree!
RobertvonGoess 0 Posted October 14, 2009 No, the DF-03-shocks do not include shock-mounts. If you need new plastic shock-mounts search for Tamiya 9005333 (black). There is a "red version" of the b-parts too (Tamiya 9005504).
