Woke up this morning to find this lovely new kit that Tamiya just released. It's the CC-01 Land Cruiser!! B)

Only regret is... why can't we have a hard-bodied option for this kit!!?? ;)

I am not a crawler person, however, from the point of view of logic, the centre of gravity needs to be very low, but these models tend to be quite tall, so one way to lower that is by making light bodies. As far as I am aware, all the bodies are polycarbonate, except for the Jeep Wrangler body. Now clearly this model is a Cross Country, but it is a recycled body from the CR01 Land Cruiser brought out last year, hence why they re used the lighter body rather than remaking one in hard plastic. Crawler experts probably feel the same way about the Jeep Wrangler if it makes you feel any better :-)

Keep well,

Paul.

You're probably right when it comes to look at this one from the crawler fan perspective, Paul, but you have to remember that this is the very first time that CC-01 chassis is mixed with a Lexan body. Prior to this one there were three, maybe four CC-01 kits that came out with hard bodies. And if the Land Cruiser body was going to be made of hard plastic I really don't think it would be any heavier than the Mitsubishi Pajero body. Tamiya should try an optional for this one, after all, scale models are what made Tamiya the legendary company that it is today. I personally feel that lexan bodies go a bit against the tradition that puts Tamiya on top of Kyosho and all of the other companies making these products. But then again, that is just my opinion.

Best regards,

EB

The Paris Dakar Touareg is also a lexan/polycarbonate body. Also there is a Pajero Expert Built which also has a silver lexan/polycarbonate body.

Just to be even more pedantic, the cars go like this, Pajero, Wrangler, Mu, Mu-X, Honda, VW, Pajero (again, this time Rally, with Lexan and friction shocks) and then the re issues....

I like hard bodies too, but lexan has a place when keeping things light and more easily finished (although not the Renault 5 or VW Golf models!)

No kidding! They released this without any of us noticing it any earlier :o? Didn't they anounce this or something!?

Lexan is okay, I guess, but paint it on the outside to cut down on the shine. That's the one thing that has always bugged me about Lexan bodies; they're too shiny when new and too plastic-y looking when they get scratched or cracked.

Frankly, I'm not too worried about the body; I'm just happy that the chassis is alive and well. It's ome of my favorite designs to mess with, and it has been too scarce for too long. It's nice to see a new "normal" (not limited) release CC01. I'm guessing we'll see a Bronco before too long as well.

Agree with the shiny part. Not very cool and it's not always an option to sand it to get it dull.

What a surprise to see this released. Never in a million years did I even think this was going to happen. Now the Bronco might follow but for the oddballs like myself and Seth(Wyoming) I so wish that we will see a Land Rover Defender or old Series Landy for that matter in the not to distant future. Wouldn't that be just the ultimate. And even better if they mod the chassis and suspension to a live axle as our spicy friend Cinnamon suggested. ;)

Can't wait to get on of these then after I paid for the 5 Wranglers and 2 Pajeros lying in my office. Ouch to my poor wallet and off course my head after my wife bashed me for buying toys again! :o

Cheers

Henk :)

I quite like the look of that - shame it only has Hummer tyres so will be rubbish off-road :) Been through a couple of CC-01 chassis now so will probably not get one though.

Hey Joe !! Long time !! Hope you are well. I clicked on the link thinking it was an abs land cruiser shell !! LOL!!

What's going on? I'm always around, just not much time these days to post. Plus I know I have a hater club on TC and don't need the aggravation.

I heard joe doesnt like them....

Does not like what?

The latest Tamiya F60, the link is as below:

Paul, are you saying the only ABS-bodied CC-01s are the Pajero and the Wrangler? The Mu also has an ABS body if I am not misstaken.

This Toyota might be quite a cool runner if it turns out to be the real deal and not someones Photshop dream. Howver, I would prefer a heavier (and more detailed) ABS body as the CG is really not as crucial as the lack of buld when it comes to grip/traction on steep rocks. The CC-01 is quite a lowrider compared to the more capable High-Lift and CR-01 chassis.

 You must be doing something right if you have a hater club. I still have your vids off the tilt bed and lights on your Lifty so you are doing great work.

Henk

Thanks Hanks,

I do my best! ;)

Hmmm, I am a bit dissapointed about this release really. This from a big FJ40 enthusiast. Tamiya missed out on making the FJ40 part of their 3spd series back inthe days. I liked the release of the CR-01 FJ40, altough I would have prefered a ABS hard body. This CC-01 kit, to me, seems like a half harted attempt. First of all, the box art looks really bad. The choice of wheels are totally wrong, and they could have put in some scale details, like interior/roof rack, tire rack or somethin. This could have been sold as scale accessories to all that bought the CR-01 and other rigs. Some nice original cruiser wheels would be a hit also I beileve... The best would of course be a hard body/ABS shell with all of the things mentioned, but I guess that will never happen...

I have all the parts to make this kit today (part from the wheels which are all wrong on the FJ anyhow), and I won't buy this kit, even though I am a vivid FJ40 enthusiast.

Still I believe we'll see, and have for some time, TC members pimping and accessorizing this model into some nice scale rides.

I will build my CC-01 based FJ40, but with these parts:

Joustra FJ40 hard body:

Cruiser Classic alu wheels from Rc4wd.com

All in all, a nice but sloppy try, not top/tamiya score in my book this time...

I think he was refering to my photoshop'ed dream five years ago
