Is it best to prime them ahead of time? Just wondering how to get a nice finish, im kind of a painting noob, so any help would be appreciated. [:D]

if you dont prime then you will most likely be painting the shell twice. You almost have to prime if you want a decent finish. If you use a basic enamel and not tamiya paint then you can get away with no primer. But the problem with enamel is you lose a lot of the detail. A good article on painting Tamiya hard bodies is published by... errr... Tamiya :D

this should help.

I highly recomend Tamiya's fine line primer. Great coverage and it's so thin you don't gum up the details. I used it on my Midnight Pumpkin below as well as many other of my hard bodies

I got the tip here to use primer. Had some serious problems before that. used Tamiyas fine surface primer on both my Hummer and my Luncbox. Great surface to paint at.

If the body is new, white and pefect you can get away also without primer if you do first a light mist coat of your colour, in all other cases or if you arent very experienced with painting, better use primer.
