Hi,

I noticed that the dual hunter has a TEU-103BK ESC which has a 150a cut off. I noticed that some forum members have had success using a 23 t motor with the lower amp rated TEU-101BK . If I run a dual hunter in 2 wheel drive with only one motor could the esc handle a single motor such as a 15 t ?

The Mtronics truck esc has 15 turn motor limit (Single motor) or dual 27 turn motor limit (2 motors) would they be similar?

I subscribe to this question.

I want to make my Dual Hunter a lot faster.

If the stock ESC supports 2 x 27 turn engines, will it handle 1 x 14 (or 15) turn engine?"

If so how could I make the setup?

Would the gears hold?

Thanks in advance!!

woudnt you lose any gains through the fact that your still having to drive the front diffs?or am i missing something

the front and rear diffs are each powered by a motor, so a single motor would be like the Blackfoot Extreme (RWD) setup.

the blackfoot extreme is just a stub axle at the front whereas the front on a dual hunter is a full gearbox,so even if you remove the motor, and theres no shaft or belt connecting them your still driving the front diff as well arent you? unless you can remove the diffs and just have them operate as some kind of stub axles on the front?

Yes, all you need to due is remove the front motor, front dogbones and gut the front 'box of its gears (no sense in lugging around the extra weight) and its basically friction-free 2wd. I don't think there will be any issue with the gears holding up. They're pretty husky. I seen the diffs get chewed up under 14.4v 550 power, but thats far more grunt than a 15T 540 size motor.

yeah thats what i thought about the extra weight, but wasnt sure what would happen if you removed the innards of the front gearbox

I've upgraded my 2wd Twin Det to the 12T brushless setup from Tamiya. I was running a 17t Double before that and that fried the Esc that I had but didn't do anything to the gears. The brushless isn't that much faster than the 17t but, and a great big BUT, the torque on the brushless is super!!!! :( It is so smooth and is on tap from the first touch of the throttle. All I did when I made it 2wd was remove the complete gearbox and replace it with the very cheap replacement part from the Blackfoot extreme. I didn't get stub axles for the front but kept the old axles with the hex drives in it to fit the wheels and it works pretty well if you ask me.

Next up will be the 8t out of the Super Levant, at least then there will be some shunt with all the grunt!

Hey Knotty,

The gearboxes are in mirror, and each engine uses one of them. So nothing will happen if you remove one of the gearboxes, I mean the inside of it.

One more question:

In theory the Dual Hunter runs with 25-30 Kph with stock Mabuchi 27T engines, I also ordered the 21T pinions. So if I put a 14 T engine will it run twice as fast?

so you just need to remove the, diff gears and dogbones and the outer shaft should just be like stub axles then?

To much of a hassle Phil. Use the gearbox you take out for a donation for a Wild Willy 2. Get the D-parts of the Blackfoot Extreme part no 9005735. It looks a lot better than an empty gearbox casing and it should be really cheap. You can still use the outer shaft yes, works like a charm. No need spending extra money on stub axles if it's not nessecary 'cause you'll need new front wheels too then.

Cheers
